이 논문은 제주도와 아이누의 구비서사시를 비교 연구한 것이다. 제주도와 아이누에는 문화의 주변 지역으로서 원시시대 이래로 풍부한 구비서사시가 전승 tradition되고 있다. 제주도에는 일반본풀이 Ilbanbonpuri, 당본풀이 Dangbonpuri, 조상본풀이 Chosangbonpuri 등이 있으며, 제각기 기능과 내용을 달리하며 전승되고 있음이 확인된다. 아이누 민족에게도 카무이 유카르 Kamuy yukar, 오이나 Oina, 아이누 유카르 Ainu yukar, 메노코 유카르 Menoko yukar 등이 전승되고 있으며, 주인공의 신분과 능력에 따라서 각기 구분되어 전승되고 있음이 확인된다. 제주도와 아이누 민족에게 전승되는 구비서사시는 여러 차원에서 비교가 되는데, 크게 형식적 차원과 내용적 차원에서 공통점과 차이점을 확인할 수 있다. 형식적 측면에서는 특정한 사제자 priest나 구연자 Oral performer가 있어서 길게 내용을 부르며 진행하는 공통점이 있다. 그런데 제주도에서는 심방 Simbang이라는 굿의 사제자가 진행하는 것에 반하여, 아이누 민족에서는 예사사람 아무나 구연하는 것이 차이점이다. 제주도와 아이누 민족에게 전승되는 구비서사시는 내용적 측면의 공통점과 차이점을 발견하기 어려운 실정이다. 그만큼 두 지역의 구비서사시는 차이점이 크다고 할 수 있다. 그러나 차이점의 저변에는 각기 성장하고 전개해 온 구비서사시의 양상이 있음이 확인된다. 그리고 이러한 구비서사시는 세계구비서사시의 사례로 소중하다.

This thesis is the comparative study on the oral epic between Jejudo and Ainu tribe. There is an advance of culture in and around Judido and Ainu tribe, where plenty of epic has been handed down since the primitive ages. Jejudo has Ilbanbonpuri, Dangbonpuri, Chosangbonpuri and others. It is confirmed that each one of them has been transmitted different function and contents. Kamuy, Yukar, Oina, Ainu yukar, Menoko yukar and others have been handed down to Ainu tribe. It is also confirmed that each one of them has been transmitted distinctively according to protagonist's position and ability. The oral epic of Jejudo and one of Ainu tribe are comparative in many ways. It is confirmed that there are something in common and difference in formality and contents in a large way. It is common in formality that there is a specific priest or an oral performer who progresses singing a song long. Here is the difference. Simbang, a priest, play in the oral epic of Jejudo. On the other hand, anyone can do in the oral epic of Ainu tribe. It is nearly hard to find out something in common and in difference in contents between them. After all, it can be said that the oral epic between them has big differences. However, it is certain that there is a pattern which each oral epic has been progressing in the base. Also these oral epics are very important as an example of world ones..oral epics.
