본고는 동아시아 일월 조정 신화의 구체적인 양상을 정리하고 그것의 문화적 함의를 찾아 보는 것을 목표로 하였다. 동아시아의 日月調定神話는 대체로 射日月型과 救日月型의 두 유형으로 구분해 볼 수 있다. 사일월형은 복수 일월이 출현함으로 인해 위기가 발생하고 천신 혹은 창세신이 파견한 영웅이 활을 쏘아 잉여의 일월의 제치함으로써 그러한 위기를 해결하는 유형으로, 동아시아 지역에서 널리 발견되는 유형이다. 한국 사일월형 신화의 경우도 이에 포함되나 여타 지역의 경우와 비교해 볼 때 일종의 인세 통치 철학이 반영되어 있다는 차이가 발견된다. 구일월형은 악신의 作亂으로 인해 일월이 사라짐으로써 위기가 발생하고, 선신이 악신과 대결하여 이김으로써 일월을 회복시킨다는 내용으로 이루어져 있는데, 주로 일조량이 적은 지역 혹은 추운 지역에서 생성되었으리라 추정되는 유형이다. 한국에서도 다소의 차이는 있지만 그러한 유형의 신화가 발견되고 있다. 사일월형은 과열한 태양과 가뭄이 큰 재앙으로 다가와 그에 대한 주술적 해결이 필요하던 농경 문화의 소산으로 판단되며, 구일월형은 생산적인 삶을 영위하기 위한 최소 요건인 일조량의 확보가 더 문제였던 지역에서의 태양 숭앙 및 보존 의식이 반영된 유형이라 판단된다.

This paper focuses on organizing the specific aspect of the myth that the sun & the moon be settled, in Eastern Asia, while seeking its cultural significance. The outcome of the study is organized as follows: The Eastern Asia’s myths that the sun & the moon be settled, can be largely divided into two groups of the type of shooting the sun & the moon down(射日月型) and the type of recovering the sun & the moon(救日月型). First, the type of shooting the sun & the moon down, is a type that the problem of the plural suns and moons is settled by the hero who shoots an arrow down. The subtype of touring and shooting the sun & the moon down(射日月遠征型) is same as the ordinary type in their dangerous situations of heat from the plural suns. Only, the difference comes in the fact that ordinary men play the role of a hero. The Korean myth that the sun & the moon be settled is nearer to the formerly introduced one. However, it is interconnected with the myth of the sovereignty-competition; there was a distinction in reflection of the psychology of the ruler’s controlling ability shifting the nation to the right and left. The type of recovering the sun & the moon is discovered in the myths of the small Chinese tribes along with the Manchu and the Ainu. It is composed in contents of the sun & the moon disappearing due to the evil spirit’s practical joke, and the good spirit recovering the sun & the moon by winning over the bad spirit. The myth of the type of recovering the sun & the moon is distinguishable from the type of shooting the sun & the moon down because the occurrence of danger sets in the darkness or coldness; it is assumed that it could have been composed in the limited-sunshine or cold weather regions. Such Korean type of recovering the sun & the moon can be found in the shamanistic myths. While collecting these results, I reviewed over cultural significance reflected on the type of shooting the sun & the moon down and the type of recovering the sun & the moon. As an outcome, the type of shooting the sun & the moon down is comprehended as a product from the agricultural culture that needed a technical resolution towards the great disaster of overheating and drought. On the other hand, the type of recovering the sun & the moon is assumed to be a product of the sun-worship.
