이 연구는 인간의 인간다움이 위협받고 있는 현대 사회에서 판소리 연구가 그 위험에 대응하는 방향으로 이루어질 수 있는 가능성을 모색하는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 이를 위하여 기존 판소리 연구 경향을 몇 가지 패러다임으로 나누어 살피고, 전체적으로 판소리 연구가 판소리의 문화론적 의의 혹은 인간론적 진실이 무엇인지를 밝히는 방향으로 진행되어야 함을 논변하였다. 기존의 판소리 연구에서는 대체로 실체론, 서사론, 계층론이 우월한 패러다임을 유지하고 있었다. 실체론은 판소리의 장르적 기원이나 근원 설화, 삽입가요에 관한 일련의 실증적 관심을 뜻하고, 서사론은 구비서사물인 판소리에서 다소 독특한 역할을 맡고 있는 서술자의 존재 양상에 대한 연구를 가리키며, 계층론은 판소리 사설에 나타난 계층적 특성을 통하여 판소리의 문학사적·예술사적 존재 방식을 탐구하려는 경향을 말한다. 이에 대해 이 연구에서는 이러한 연구 패러다임의 성과를 존중하면서도, 상대적으로 취약할 수밖에 없는 몇 가지 난점을 토대로 하여 각각 실용론, 문화론, 인간론의 필요성을 강조하였다. 실용론은 판소리의 어법이나 향유 방식이 오늘날의 각종 언어적 장르에서 어떻게 실현되는가에 대한 관심이고, 문화론은 판소리의 서사 방식을 인간이 추구하는 소망의 반영으로 보고자 하는 연구이며, 인간론은 인간 일반의 속성에 기대어 주제 의식을 파악하는 연구 경향을 말한다. 이러한 연구 패러다임은 궁극적으로 판소리의 공감대를 확장함으로써, 판소리의 현대화와 세계화에도 기여할 수 있을 것으로 보인다. 문학 연구는 결국 인간의 삶의 무늬를 파악하는 것이어야 한다는 점이 이 글의 최종적인 결론이다.

This essay aims to explore the research paradigm of Pansori contributing to cope with the threat of modern society. For this purpose, I divided previous Pansori studies into three paradigms and evaluated both the significance and the limit. It is the interest in substance of Pansori that is dominating paradigm among previous Pansori studies. It is a series of intertextuality sudies, as study of generic origin, source story, inserted song, and generic intercourse. These are the research to demonstrate the past of Pansori. But the research of Pansori need to analyse the present of Pansori, in other words the discoursive influence of Pansori. It can be prescribed as study of practicality. Another paradigm is narratolgy of Pansori. The narrator in Pansori narrative has unique appearance and play an unique role. By the way, narratolgy of Pansori can describe only the superficial aspect. Therefore the uniqueness of Pansori narrator need to be elucidated by cultural approach. It clarifies that the unique appearance and role stems from the expectation of community. And the other is the research of social strata. It is true that Pansori was folk literature. For that reason, Pansori is regarded as the art of populace. But It has grown into a popular culture. Then it is clear that Pansori has wide and open boundary of sympathy. The research of Pansori need to focus on the human truth, the key of expansive sympathy. As these paradigm is successfully executed, the task of the modernization and globalization of Pansori will be accomplished naturally. The final conclusion of this essay is as follows ; The research of literature must belong to human study, investigating texture of human life.
