본고는 명나라 만력 연간에 활동한 허학이의 『시경』 비평에 관해 고찰했다. 허학이의 『시경』 비평론은 『시경』과 관련된 다양한 논제를 언급하고 있다. 그 중 본고에서는 공자의 ‘思無邪’설에 대해 추존하고 주희의 ‘淫詩’설에 대해 비판한 내용을 중점적으로 살펴보았다. 허학이가 공자의 주장을 적극적으로 수용한 것은 단순히 옛 것으로 돌아가자는 문학론이 아니다. 그는 『시경』의 작품을 이해하는 올바른 방법을 찾고, 앞으로의 시 창작이 어떠한 방향으로 나아가야 하는지를 고민했다.
한마디로 허학이는 『시경』을 읽는 방법론에서 칭송과 풍자를 인정한 전통적인 방법론을 적극적으로 인정하고 수용했다. 그와 동시에 명나라 시기에도 여전히 유행하고 있었던 주희의 『시경』론에 대해 직접적인 반론을 제기했다. 주희는 전통적인 ‘詩經漢學’에 회의를 지녔던 대표적인 인물이자 가장 영향력이 있었던 문인이기 때문이다. 이에 허학이는 우선 주희가 해석한 공자의 ‘사무사’설에 대해 비판하고, 나아가 주희가 제기한 ‘음시’설의 문제점에 대해 집중적으로 공격했다. 그뿐 아니라 주희가 주장한 작중 화자의 창작설에 대해서도 비판적인 입장을 취했다. 따라서 본고는 허학이의 이러한 입장을 이해하기 쉽게 설명하기 위해 먼저 주희의 ‘음시’설이 무엇인가에 대해 간단명료하게 정리했다. 그 다음으로 주희의 <국풍>이 민간가요라는 주장 및 작중화자 창작설 문제에 대해 정리했다. 이러한 내용을 바탕으로 허학이의 주장이 어떻게 진행되었는지를 좀 더 분명하고 알기 쉽게 살펴볼 수 있었다.
This study is on criticism of Shijing by Xu-Xueyi ―a writer worked during Wanli(萬曆) in Ming(明) dynasty. Shijing has referenced many subjects for Shijing through the theory of criticism of Shijing. Above all, this study was focused on honoring to Siwuxie(思 無邪) theory of Kongzi(孔子) and the criticism of impure-poetry theory of Zhuxi(朱熹). The acceptance of Kongzi’s opinion is not just (a literary theory) to return to the old. It was to find correct lines to understanding the work of Shijing and agonize the direction in a creation for poetry hereafter. Accordingly, Xu-Xueyi aggressively committed to and accepted a conventional methodology is acceptive of compliment and satire among various methodologies to read Shijing. As the same time, it had only disputed the Shijing theory was been in the spotlight to Ming dynasty as ever. Because Zhuxi is the most powerful writer had doubts about the conventional methodology. Above all, it criticized Siwuxie theory of Kongzi was interpreted by Zhuxi and pointed out the problem of impure-poetry theory. In addition, it criticized the speaker of a work Zhuxi mentioned. It has arranged simply what Zhuxi's lewd poetry theory is to explain in an easy way to understand Xu-Xueyi's position. And then it has arranged a opinion of that Zhuxi's Guofeng(國風) is popular song and a character was created. Consequentially, this study is to understand easier how Xu-Xueyi’ opinion is proceeding.
