본 연구의 목적은 섀도잉 학습법의 효과를 학교 수준 및 숙달도, 처치 기간과 시간을 중심으로 살펴보는 데 있다. 이를 위해 EFL 분야와 KFL 분야에서 이루어진 섀도잉 학습법 관련 연구 38편에서 65개의 효과크기를 산출하여 메타분석을 수행하였다. 본 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 섀도잉 학습법의 전체 효과크기는 .591로 중간 효과크기를 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 EFL 분야에서는 학교 수준이 올라갈수록 더 높은 효과크기를 보였으며, KFL 분야에서는 숙달도에 관계없이 비슷한 수준의 효과크기를 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 섀도잉 학습법은 발음 능력에 가장 효과적이었으며(.815) 다음으로 말하기 능력(.620), 듣기 능력(.556) 순으로 효과적이었다. 그리고 학교 수준 및 숙달도에 따라 효과적인 영역이 다른 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 수업 기간, 주당 수업 횟수, 총, 수업 횟수, 섀도잉 학습 시간을 조절변인으로 상정하고 효과를 분석한 결과 수업 기간과 주당 수업 횟수가 통계적으로 유의미한 차이를 보였다. 그리고 결과에 대해 논의하였다.

The purpose of this study was to systematically look into the effect of shadowing learning in the field of foreign language education in South Korea. To this end, 38 relevant studies in EFL and KFL education were collected and meta-analysis was performed by calculating 65 effect sizes. The major findings of this study are as follows. First, the overall effect size of shadowing learning transpired to be medium (.591). In addition, the effect increased as school level increased (E: .264, M: .384, H: .414, and U: .767). Similar effect sizes were found in the field of KFL, regardless of proficiency level (I: .670 and A: .640). Second, shadowing learning was most effective in the improvement of pronunciation ability (.815), followed by speaking ability (.620) and listening ability (.556). The improvement in ability for each language was dependent on school level and proficiency. Third, the analysis of the moderating effect with the duration of the course (weeks), number of classes per week, total number of classes, and shadowing learning time taken as the moderating variables showed statistically significant differences for the duration of the course and the number of classes per week. Detailed findings and pedagogical suggestions are also discussed.
