본 연구의 목적은 아스퍼거 장애 자녀를 둔 어머니의 비가시화 실천 경험과 의미를 심층적으로 탐색하는 것이다. 이를 위해 장애 진단을 받은 지 1년 이상 된 아스퍼거 장애 자녀를 둔 어머니 4명을 대상으로 심층 면접을 진행하였고, van Manen의 해석학적 현상학 연구방법에 기초하여 수집된 자료들을 분석하였다. 자료 분석 결과 4개의 주제와 9개의 하위주제가 도출되었다. 4개의 주제는 ‘버겁지만 대신 지고 가는 십자가’, ‘장애에 대한 몰이해로 인한 고통과 갈등’, ‘대상화하는 시선으로부터 주체성을 지켜내고자 함’, ‘홀로 헤쳐 나가야하는 냉혹한 미로’로 나타났으며 비가시화 실천의 과정에서 참여자들이 경험하는 심리적, 행동적 변화 및 사회문화적 특성을 제시하고 있다. 본 연구의 결과는 아스퍼거 장애 자녀를 둔 어머니의 비가시화 실천 경험을 심도 있게 탐색하여 그 경험의 의미를 이해함으로써 아스퍼거 장애 자녀 및 어머니들을 위한 전문적 개입방안 마련을 위한 기초자료를 제공하였다는 점에서 의의를 갖는다. 또한 아스퍼거 장애 자녀 어머니의 심층적인 경험 이해를 통해 정신장애에 대한 인식 및 제도 개선에 대한 시사점을 제시한다.

The purpose of this study is to phenomenologically explore ‘the practices of invisiblization’ experienced by mothers of children with Asperger’s disorders and to help acquire in-depth understanding of their experiences. In-depth interviews were conducted with four mothers of children diagnosed as Asperger’s disorders at least over one year, and the collected data were analyzed based on van Manen’s hermeneutic phenomenological study method. As a result of the data analysis, 4 major themes and 9 sub-themes were derived. The 4 major themes are : ‘painful but carried a cross on their children’s behalf’, ‘pain and conflict caused by incomprehension of disability’, ‘protect the subjectivity from the objectifying gaze’, and ‘a harsh maze where one must go through alone’. This includes psychological behavioral changes and socio-cultural characteristics experienced by participants in the process of invisiblization. The results of this study, exploring in-depth the practices of invisiblization among mothers to understand the meaning of their experience, has significance in providing basic data for professional intervention toward children with Asperger ’s disorders and their mothers. In addition, this study suggests implications for the improvement of recognition and the institutional system of mental disorders through understanding the in-depth experience of mothers of children with Asperger’s disorders.
