고전문학은 선비들의 곁에 늘 예술이 놓여 있었던 고전 시대를 배경으로 하고 있어 거기에는 상당히 많은 예술정신이 내재되어 있다. 그래서 고전문학을 대상으로 예술 교육을 실행하는 것은 합당하고도 적절하다. 예술 교육은 인간의 감성 영역을 풍부하게 하고, 창의력을 증진시키는 데 도움을 주며, 국가적 예술 역량을 증대시켜 미래 성장 동력을 개발하는 일과도 무관하지 않을 정도로 중대한 국가적 사안이다. 예술 교육이 미래를 지향해야 하는 반면 고전문학교육은 과거를 회고하는 시간운동 방향을 갖기에 겉으로는 시대착오지만 속으로는 더 강한 역설적 의의를 갖는다. 고전문학 교육에서 예술 교육은 그 과거회고적 방향에서 우리의 전통문화와 전통예술에 대한 이해를 깊고 풍부하게 할 수 있다 나아가 자연과 사물에 대해 여유있게 관조하고 성찰하고 사색하는 정신자세를 배울 수 있게 하고, 인간주의적이고 휴머니스틱한 감정과 정서를 다시 생각하게 하며, 삶의 이면에 함축된 두터운 맥락을 통해 풍부하게 사유하는 방법을 배울 수 있게 한다. 이런 점들은 고전문학이 주는 미래지향적 가치라고 할 수 있다. 고전문학 교육에서 예술 교육을 실행할 때 틀과 방법을 정형화하거나 일률화해서는 안되며 최대한 교육의 다양성과 다차원을 인정하고 자유개방성을 확보해줄 필요가 있다. 고전문학 교육에서 예술 교육은 기존의 고전문학 교육에서 약간의 시각 조정에서부터 환골탈태의 개혁에 이르기까지 그 운용의 폭이 넓다. 현행 고전문학 교육의 틀 속에서라도 가능한 방법을 강구하여 대학교육에서부터 시작하는 것이 필요하다.
Korean classical literature is set in the traditional era when art always next to the old scholars, for that reason there is a great deal of artistic spirit in it. It is both reasonable and proper to carry out artistic education for the classical literature. Artistic education enrich the human emotional realm, help promote creativity, and not irrelevant to the development of future growth engines by increasing the national artistic ability. Whereas artistic education is oriented toward the future, classical literature education toward a time movement that looks back on the past. This is an anachronism, but it has a stronger paradox. In that retrospective direction, we can deepen and enrich our understanding of traditional culture and art. Moreover we can learn to think, reflect in a relaxed way about nature and things, reconstitute the human feelings and sentiments, and learn to reason in the thick context of life. These are the forward looking values of classical literature. It is necessary to recognize the diversity and multi-dimensional aspects of artistic education and to ensure free opening of the artistic education in classical literature education. In classical literature education, artistic education is widely used in its operations, ranging from traditional literary education to some visual adjustment to the reform of the paradigm shift. It is necessary to take possible measures, even in the framework of classical literature education, to begin with a college education right away.
