기존의 노자연구에서는, 무無를 유有와 대등하게 짝을 지워서 함께 연구하기보다는, 주로 무無에 쏠려서 무無와 도道의 관계를 논의하는 데에 집중하였고, 나아가서 무無를 형이상개념으로 높여서 “도道와 무無는 같은 개념이다.”는 주장이 무성하였다. 이 주장에 필자는 네 가지 문제의식을 가졌다. ① 도道와 무無는 같은 개념일까? 다른 개념일까? ② 같은 개념으로 보는 사람들의 도道개념과 무無개념 그리고 다른 개념으로 보는 사람들의 도道개념과 무無개념은 무엇이 어떻게 다를까? ③ 무無와 유有는 형이상개념일까? 형이하개념일까? ④ 무無개념과 유有개념은 무엇이 어떻게 다를까? 이 문제의식을 풀어내기 위하여, 필자는 도道를 ‘천지지도·성인지도·치세지도 그리고 포괄지도’라는 네 가지의 개념편차로 구별해 보았고, 무無와 유有를 ‘부정문과 긍정문’ 그리고 성인지도로서 nothing(무)과 치세지도로서 something(유) 그리고 천지지도로서 Nothing (無)과 Something(有)이라는 세 가지의 개념편차로 나누어서 정리하였다. 그리고 이 두 가지 작업을 함께 연결 지어서, “성리학자들이 노자의 무無와 유有를 형이상의 리理와 형이하의 기氣에 빗대어 해석하면서 무無를 체體로 유有를 용用으로 말한다.”는 문제점을 지적하였으며, 나아가서 후세의 노자연구가 성리학자들의 이러한 잘못에 휘말려들어 무無를 형이상개념으로 높여서 “도道와 무無는 같은 개념이다.”고 주장하게 된 문제점을 살펴보았다. 이에 따라 위의 네 가지 문제의식에 대하여, 필자는 다음과 같이 주장한다. ① 도道와 무無는 같은 개념이 아니라 그 개념의 범주와 차원이 전혀 다른 개념이다. ② 도道 그리고 무無와 유有의 개념편차를 선명하게 구별하여 정리함으로써, 도道 그리고 무無와 유有의 개념이 서로 어떻게 다른지를 구체적으로 살펴보았다. ③ 무無와 유有에는, 구체개념으로 수많은 nothing(무)들과 수많은 something(유)들이 있고, 추상개념으로 Nothing(無)과 Something(有)이 있다. 그래서 무無와 유有는 개념의 차원이 같지만 범주가 다르다고 보았다. ④ 노자사상에는 the NOTHING(포괄지도)이라는 형이상개념이 있다. 따라서 nothing (무)과 something(유)이나 Nothing(無)과 Something(有)은 형이하개념이라고 본다. 이러한 네 가지 문제의식에 따른 필자의 네 가지 주장은, 도道 그리고 무無과 유有에 대한 개념편차를 선명하게 잡아서 정리함에 따라서 나타난 주장이기 때문에, 기존의 어느 노자연구물에서도 전혀 말하지 않았던 견해이다.

In existed studies about Laoz's thought, it studied notional approaching oriented Nothing(無) rather than to study nothing(무) and something(유) as an equal footing in vivid Life-world, going farther notionally evaluating Nothing(無) to metaphysics. So existed almost all scholars have been insisted "Nothing(無) is Tao(道)". In response, I have four critical minds. ① Is Nothing(無) and Tao(道) a same concept? different concept? ② What is different point between a same concept and different concept? ③ What is different and How is different among nothing(무) and something(유) · Nothing(無) and Something(有) · the NOTHING(道) and the SOMETHING(神)? ④ nothing(무) and something(유) · Nothing(無) and Something(有) · the NOTHING(道) and the SOMETHING(神), Are they concept of metaphysics? and concept of physical science? In order to clear up and work out these four critical minds, I distinguished and arranged that Tao(道) has conceptual difference saying to the Natural Tao(天地之道) · the Saint's Tao(聖人之道) · the Political Tao(治世之道) · the Comprehensive Tao(包括之道) and Mu無 and Yu有 have conceptual difference saying to not and some · nothing(무) and something(유), Nothing(無) and Something(有). And according to this, in order to argue point between metaphysics and physical science, I argue different point between metaphysics and physical science in the Sung Confucianism and Laoz's thought. As mentioned above four critical minds, I insist like this. ① Nothing(無) and Tao(道) are different concept. ② Tao(道) has conceptual difference to the Natural Tao(天地之道) · the Saint's Tao(聖人之道) ·the Political Tao(治世之道) · the Comprehensive Tao(包括之道) and Mu無 and Yu有 have conceptual difference to not and some · nothing(무) and something(유), Nothing(無) and Something(有). ③ nothing(무) and something(유) are vivid Life-world concepts, Nothing(無) and Something(有) are abstractional concepts, the NOTHING(道) and the SOMETHING(神) are concepts of metaphysics. ④ So the each word is different and they have various differences between category and dimension of concept. nothing(무) and something(유) · Nothing(無) and Something(有) are concept of physical science, the NOTHING(道) is concept of metaphysics.
