본 논문은 ‘386’ 세대 작가군 중 ‘실제 세대’로 상정되는 작가들의 작품을 대상으로, 세대정체성과 기억의 특수 양태인 노스탤지어의 관계를 탐구한다. 비슷한 시기에 출생하여 공통의 역사 체험을 한 동년배 집단으로 정의되는 ‘세대’는 경험과 기억의 공동체를 구성한다. 특히 시간과 관계하면서 발현되는 세대 특유의 노스탤지어는 집합 기억에 대한 감정 공유를 고무함으로써 감정의 공동체를 구성한다. 이러한 맥락에서 본 연구는 80년대, 20대 청춘 시기에, 운동의 중심 또는 그 언저리에서 시대적 상황을 공유하고, 변혁 운동에 직·간접적으로 공조했던 ‘실제 세대’ 작가들의 작품에 투영된 80년대 노스탤지어를 추적한다. 이를 위해 먼저 세대론적 관점에서 ‘386’ 세대경험이 시간의 양식 속에서 변주되는 감정 양상과 노스탤지어 개념과의 관계 설정을 위한 이론틀을 제시한다. 그런 다음, 1990년대 이후부터 오늘에 이르기까지 80년대 운동 세대로서의 경험과 기억을 공유한 ‘386’ 실제세대 작가군에 의한 세대적 노스탤지어 양상이 어떤 변이 과정을 거치고 있는지를 추적한다. 이어 세대경험에 투사되는 노스탤지어의 구조분석과 더불어 그것이 지니는 한계, 나아가 세대적 노스탤지어가 단순한 ‘자기양식화’ 또는 특정 세대만의 감상적· 패쇄적 향수를 넘어 미래세대로 향하는 통로가 될 수 있는 방안을 모색해보고자 한다.

This article explores the relationship between nostalgia, a specific aspect of memories, and generation identity through examining the works of writers considered to be the ‘generation as actuality’ among ‘386’ generation writers. ‘Generation’, defined as the cohort with shared historical experiences, constructs communities of experiences and memories. Especially, generation specific nostalgia emerging in relation to time, encourages emotional responses to collective memories and thereby constructs the community of emotions. In this light, this research traces the nostalgia in 1980s reflected in the works of the ‘generation as actuality’. They shared the happenings in 1980s while they were in their 20s and assisted both directly and indirectly to the various social movements. First, the theoretical frame for assessing the relationship between the emotional aspects where ‘386’ generational experiences are played out in the scope of time and the concept of nostalgia is formulated. Then, the changes generational nostalgia of ‘generation as actuality’ among '386' generation go through is examined. It is argued that the limits of structural analysis of nostalgia reflecting generational experiences, and restricted conceptual scopes. Concept of generational nostalgia is to go beyond the scopes of 'self-stylization' or sentimental and exclusive romanticization of past of specific generations. The ways for generational nostalgia to be extended to the channel toward future generations are explored.
