현대교육은 위기에 직면해 있다. 현대교육 위기의 본질은 탈현대문명 건설이라는 시대의 요청에 반하는 교육이 실시되고 있다는 점이다. 현대 말·탈현대 초에 해당하는 현 시점은 문명 대전환기이며, 우리에게 요구되는 것은 탈현대문명 건설이다. 교육 역시 탈현대문명 건설을 이끌어갈 수 있는 탈현대적인 인재 배양에 힘을 기울여야 한다. 그러나 현대교육은 현대 세계관에 고착됨으로 인해서 시대의 요구에 반하는 교육을 실시하고 있다. 자동화로 인해 노동자에 대한 사회적인 수요는 급감하고 있지만, 교육은 노동자를 양산하는데 더욱 매진하고 있다. 시대는 피교육자의 영성을 계발하는 교육을 요구하고 있지만, 교육은 이성을 계발하는데 더욱 집중하고 있다. 이런 시대의 요구에 역행하는 교육 현실, 이것이 바로 현대교육 위기의 본질이다. 교육이 이런 자기소외를 벗어나 교육 본연의 책무를 다하기 위해서는 교육목표와 교육내용의 근본적인 전환을 이루어야 한다. 유불도의 동양사상에서 실시된 전통교육은 새로운 교육의 미래를 모색하는데 많은 시사점을 제공할 수 있다.

As the results of automation, the social demand for laborer is sharply decreasing, but the modern education is more concentrated on cultivating laborer.
