오늘날 현대 노동관에의 고착은 불필요한 고통을 양산하고 있으며, 인류가 탈현대의 새로운 사회로 진입하는 것을 가로막는 중요한 장애물로 작용하고 있다. 현대 노동관은 ‘분리·독립된 개체로서의 인간’이라는 현대 인간관에 기초하고 있다. 그러므로 탈현대적인 의미에서의 인간적인 노동의 의미를 탐구하기 위해서는 새로운 세계관적인 기초가 필요하다. 이런 논의를 위한 선행 작업으로 현대인이 갖고 있는 ‘인간적인 노동’의 의미가 어떻게 현대 세계관의 영향 하에서 형성된 것인가를 밝히고, 탈현대의 관점에서 현대 노동관의 문제점을 비판한다. 이에 이어서, 통일체적 세계관의 관점에서 ‘인간적인 노동’의 새로운 의미를 밝히고, 새로운 노동관의 탈현대적인 함의를 논의한다. 통일체적 세계관의 관점에서 볼 때, 노동은 더 이상 그 자체가 인간다움을 이루는 목적적인 활동이 아니며, 인간다움을 이룰 수 있는 유일한 통로도 아니다. 다만 노동도 인간다움을 이루어나가는 활동의 하나가 될 수 있는데, 그것은 수행과 낙도로서의 노동이 행해지는 경우에 한해서이다. 통일체적 노동관은 중요한 탈현대적인 함의를 갖고 있다. 첫째, 통일체적 노동관은 탈현대의 새로운 사회구조와 조화를 이룰 수 있다. 둘째, 통일체적 노동관은 직업 노동에 대한 강박적인 집착으로부터의 해방을 가능하게 하며, 궁극적으로 지구생태계의 복구에 기여할 수 있다. 셋째, 통일체적 노동관은 탈현대적인 의미에서 노동의 인간화에 기여할 수 있다.

Nowadays, the obsession to the modern view of labor makes much unnecessary suffering. And it is a critical obstacle for mankind to advance into the new civilization. The modern view of labor is based on the modern view of human being. Therefore, I order to explore a new meaning of human labor from the perspective of post-modernity we need a new foundation of world view is needed. As the preceding works for this discussion, this paper, attempts to reveal how the modern meaning of human labor has been made under the influence of the modern world view. And the problems of the modern view of labor are criticized in terms of post-modern viewpoint. Then, the new meaning of human labor is discussed in the light of the unified world view. Finally, the post-modern implication of the new view of labor is stated. From the viewpoint of the unified view of world, labor is not the activity that realizes the human potentiality. And it is not the only pathway to reach the state of human being. Rather, labor can be one of diverse activities to attain the humanity. And this humanity can be accomplished only when labor is realized as practice and enjoying Tao. The unified view of labor has important post-modern implications. First, it can be harmonious with the new social structure of post-modern society. Second, it can help mankind to be free from the obsession to occupational labor, utimatey, restoring the ecosystem of the earth. Third, it can contribute to the humanization of labor in the sense of post-modernism.
