인류는 지난 수천 년간의 노동을 통해 ‘노동 없는 사회’에 급속히 다가서고 있다. 여가 시간은 빠른 속도로 늘어나고 있으며, 대중적인 차원에서 인류는 처음으로 여가 중심적인 삶을 향유할 수 있게 되었다. 그러나 현대인의 여가생활은 소외되어 있다. 현대 여가 소외의 근원은 현대 세계관이다. 현대 여가의 소외는 개인적인 고통과 비인간화를 초래할 뿐만 아니라 생태문제 심화를 포함해서 현대문명 위기를 가속화하는 요인이 되고 있다. 이에 따라서 새로운 여가 정체성의 탐구가 절실하게 요구되고 있다. 엄청나게 늘어난 여가시간을 창조적으로 사용할 수 있는 능력을 인류가 갖게 될 때만, 개인 차원에서나 문명 차원에서 밝은 미래를 기약할 수 있기 때문이다. 이 글은 바로 이런 시대적인 요청에 부응해서, 여가시간의 창조적인 사용을 위한 새로운 여가 정체성의 탐구를 그 목표로 한다.

Human beings are approaching 'a society without labor' after going through thousand years of labor. This results in the rapid growth of leisure time and human beings can enjoy the life centered on leisure. However, the leisure life of modern people is alienated and this alienation comes from the modern world view. The alienation of modern leisure not only causes individual pain and dehumanization but also accelerates the crisis of modern civilization including environmental problems. Given this, the search for a new identity of leisure is urgently needed because our future can be bright in terms of both individual and civilizational level only when human beings are able to use leisure time creatively. This paper aims to search a new identity of leisure which modern society is really in need.
