현대문명은 막다른 골목에 이르렀다. 그렇지만 어디를 둘러보아도 탈출구는 보이지 않는다. 어쩌면 인류는 더 궁지에 몰려야 할지 모른다. 우리가 이 막다른 골목에서 벗어나려면 우리의 존재 자체가 근본적으로 변화해야 한다. 그리고 인간 존재의 근본적 변화를 가능하게 하는 것이 교육이라고 한다면 인류에게 남아있는 유일한 희망은 교육이라고 할 수 있다. 인류가 교육이라고 하는 것을 시작한 뒤 지금까지의 교육은 인간 이성의 계발에 초점을 맞추었다. 이성을 통해 자연을 개발하고 이성을 통해 도덕적 선의지를 기르는 것이 교육의 목표였다. 최근에 우리교육을 지배하고 있는 창의 인성교육 역시 이 범주에서 벗어나지 않는다. 현대 인류가 궁지에서 벗어날 수 있는 교육은 이성의 계발이 아니라 본성의 발견이다. 인간의 마음속에는 무한한 용량을 가진 사랑의 샘이 있다. 본성의 발견이란 이 사랑의 샘을 막고 있는 바위를 치우는 것이다. 이 바위의 이름은 ‘나’이다. 이것만이 인류가 지구상의 모든 생명과 함께 공멸하는 것을 막을 수 있는 유일한 대안이다.

At last the human-being confront a blind alley. There are no exit around them. They struggle with each other in a sinking boat which was named earth. Of course not only human-being but also all other lives are on the boat. The only way to convert the boat from danger is fundamental change of their mind. If we can call it a education, education is the last hope of human-being. But the education of human has been focused on development of reason. They thought that reason can make material fertilization and can raise moral judgement. We call it a originality and morality education. The only exit of human-being is the education to discover human nature. Every human has a immense fountain of love in their mind. But a heavy rock stop up a hole where the water can flow out. The name of the rock is ‘I.’ When we can remove the rock, we can recover the nature of love.
