본 논문은 ‘성인됨’을 위한 유학의 기획과 그 철학적 전개 양상을 살펴봄으로써, 유학 전체를 하나로 관통하고 있는 철학적 특징과 그것의 다양한 전개 양상을 확인해 보려는 것이 목적이다. 이것은 지금까지 철학 내적 논리에 따라 유학을 나누고 이해했던 것으로부터 탈피하여, 유학이 꿈꾸고 있는 학문적 지향점과 그것을 향한 그들의 기획을 총체적으로 이해해 보려는 것이다. 이를 위해 본 논문은 유학이 노장이나 불교철학과 마찬가지로 ‘됨의 철학’이며, 그 궁극적 목표는 ‘성인됨’에 있다는 전제로부터 출발한다. 이러한 전제 위에서 유학자들이 ‘모든 사람이 성인이 되어야 하는 이유’와 ‘모든 사람이 성인이 될 가능성’ 그리고 ‘성인이 되기 위한 방법’을 어떻게 설정하고 있는지를 검토하고 있는 것이다. 그리고 세부적으로 이 세 물음에 대한 원시유가(맹자)에서 성리학(주자학과 양명학)까지의 답변들을 정리함으로써 동일한 목적으로 두고 이루어지는 다양한 철학적 전개 양상을 살펴보고 있다.

The purpose of this thesis is identify the philosophical feature which is passing through the Confucianism and its developing aspects by looking at plan of Confucianism for being a saint and philosophical developing aspects. I want to totally understand the ideal scholarly points of Confucianism and their plans with this viewpoint by breaking from the understanding and devision of Confucianism led by philosophical inner logic. This thesis is premised that philosophical is a philosophy for being like Taoism and its ultimate goal is for being a saint. I want to explain the reason that everyone have to be a saint, the possibility everyone can be a saint and the methods for being a saint which Confucianists established, And I want to investigated the philosophical developing aspects and the answers from Mencius to Wang Yang-Ming’s philosophy.
