본 논문은 1954년에서 개혁개방 시기까지 중국사회의 홍학-홍루몽 연구가 학술계에서 계급투쟁의 이데올로기로 이용되는 과정을 연구하고자 한다. 홍학에 대한 연구는 1954년 이전에도 다양하게 이루어졌다. 그러나 1954년부터 홍학연구는 봉건귀족계급의 몰락이라는 관점에서 다루어졌다. 이런 연구경향은 모택동의 관심을 끌게 되었고, 정치적인 지지를 받으면서 ‘인민일보’(Ren Min Re Bao)에 홍루몽이 연재되었다. 그 후 중국 문학계와 학계에서는 기존의 홍학연구의 자본주의적 경향을 비판하는 학술회의와 좌담회가 전국적으로 개최되었다. 이때부터 홍학연구는 본격적으로 계급투쟁 논의에 휘말리게 된다. 이 과정에서 공산당의 정치적인 필요에 의해 홍학연구는 계급투쟁을 위한 도화선 역할을 하게 되었다. 홍학연구는 중화인민공화국 건립 이후 최초로 정치가 학술활동에 개입하고, 정치운동에 학술적 가치를 이용하는 사회적인 사건이라고 할 수 있다. 정치적인 목적으로 이루어진 홍학연구는 홍루몽의 문학·철학·사회학적 가치를 상실하게 했다.

The purpose of this paper is to study the process of using Hong Xue as the ideology of class struggle from 1954 to the reform era. Before 1954, there had been many researches for Hong Xue. But the Hong Sue study had been accompanied in terms of the ruin of feudality. These research tendency called the attention of Mao Tse-tung. And Hong Xue had been published serially in Ren Min Re Bao. After that, a series of academic meetings and symposiums had been held to criticize the capitalistic orientation of existing Hong Xue studies. Since then, Hong Xue study had been used as a tool for class struggle discussion. The Chinese Communist Party used it to achieve his political purpose. Hong Xue study was a typical event that the politics intervened in the academic activity and the academic affairs was used in the political movement. By the Hong Xue study which had been done to achieve political purpose, Hong Xue lost the literary·the philosophical·the sociological value.
