이 논문은 비예술적인 시각으로 박목월 시를 비판한 불합리함을 다시 비판하고 목월 시의 진면목을 논증하기 위해 연구되었다. 특히 다음과 같은 두 가지 점에 초점을 맞추었다. 첫째는 시의 예술적 자율성을 간과하고 정치사회적인 현실을 반영한 농도에 따라 시의 가치를 가늠하는 민중문학적인 시각의 문제점을 제기하는 것이다. 둘째는 목월의 초기 시를 부정적으로 평가한 태도가 온당하지 않음을 확인하기 위해 목월 시의 시적 완성도를 논증하는 것이다. 이를 통해 목월의 초기 시가 예술적으로 잘 지어진 수작(秀作)임을 증명하려고 했다. 박목월의 초기 시에 대한 비판적 태도 중에 가장 문제가 되는 것은 자연 몰입의 경향을 보여주는 작품을 현실 도피적으로 매도한 경우이다. 이런 태도는 시가 시인의 현실적 경험과 상상력의 조합에 의하여 예술적으로 형상화된 양식이라는 점을 간과하여 적절한 시각이라 하기 어렵다. 또한 그것은 시의 가장 중요한 특성인 함축성을 고려하지 않은 채 시적 제재를 표층적 의미로만 해석하여 그 바탕에 깔린 진정한 의미를 놓쳐 버린 한계도 노출한다. 박목월의 시혼과 작품을 살펴보면 그는 당대에 누구보다도 치열한 예술정신을 갖고 시적으로 잘 형상화되고 다듬어진 작품을 짓기 위해 심혈을 기울였음을 분명히 확인할 수 있다. 본고는 이 점을 거울로 삼아서 목월 시의 시적 완성도를 구체적으로 해명하였다. 그 결과 목월의 초기 시들, 특히 대표작으로 꼽히는 <청노루> 같은 작품은 민중 시각적인 척도로 비판한 결과가 얼마나 허황한지 여실히 증명한다는 사실을 분명히 확인하였다.

The purpose of this study is to criticize the irrationality of criticizing Park Mok wol’s poems from the inartistic perspective and to prove the true character his poems. Especially the two following points are focused. First, the study presents the problem of the popular literature views that evaluate the value of poems according to the degree of reflecting political and social reality by overlooking artistic autonomy of poems. Second, it demonstrates the attitude of evaluating Park Mok wol’s early poems negatively with the problematic criterion. By doing this, the study is intended to prove Park Mok wol’s early poems are masterpieces, which are artistically well organized. The most problematic point among the critical attitudes towards Park Mok-wol’s early poems is the case that denounces poems that show the tendency of nature immersion as escapism. This attitude overlooks the fact that poetry is artistically embodied by the combination of poet’s realistic experiences and imagination, and that it is a highly implicative genre. That’s why it can’t be considered as an appropriate perspective. In other words, the perspective reveals the limit of interpreting poetic topics with superficial meanings without considering implication, which is the basic physiology of poetry, and missing the genuine underlying meanings. In Park Mok wol’s poetic spirit and works, it is obvious that Park Mok wol had more intense artistic spirit than any others in those days and made efforts to write poems proper for poem. The works created by artistic spirit should be judged based on poetic completeness and artistic value instead of the exposure intensity of poetic subjects as the criterion of criticism. The true nature of poems, which are artistic works, can be revealed when they are approached as artistic works. Although political ideology and artistic autonomy are totally different, the confusion of the two elements shouldn’t damage the meaning of poems’ existence. Park Mok wol’s early poems, especially < Cheongnoru(Blue Roe Deer) >, definitely prove how hollow the criticism of public viewpoints is.
