본 질적 연구는 여성 지적장애 청소년의 이성교제에 관하여 지적장애인 당사자의 목소리를 통해서 그들의 이성교제 경험을 듣는 것에 목적이 있다. 서울과 경기도에 거주하는 총 4명의 여성 지적장애 청소년과 그들 부모 4명과의 개별심층 면담을 통해 그들이 이성교제를 통해서 궁극적으로 추구하는 바가 무엇이며 이성교제를 통해서 얻는 기쁨과 어려움은 어떠한 것들이 있는지 상세하게 살펴보았다. 개별심층 면담을 통해서 얻은 자료들은 Nvivo10을 사용하여 자료를 정리하였으며 주제분석방법(Thematic Analysis) 절차를 사용하여 자료를 분석하였다. 연구문제에 따라서 자료를 분석한 결과 여성 지적장애 청소년의 이성교제 경험에 대해서 5가지 주제가 도출되었다: 1)진정한 사랑을 찾는 과정, 2) 나를 특별하게 만들어주는 경험, 3) 남들도 하는 것, 4)위험을 감수해야하는 일, 그리고 5) 장애로 인해서 여전히 어려운 일로 5개의 주제가 도출되었다. 또한 이들의 건강한 이성교제를 위해서 필요한 지원으로는 1)비밀이 보장되는 이성교제 멘토, 2)안전하게 만날 수 있는 데이트 그룹, 3)성적 자기결정기술 지도 그리고 4)현실적이고 실용적인 성교육이다. 결과에 따른 논의는 본문에서 제시되었다.

The purpose of this qualitative case study is to understand dating experiences of youths with mild intellectual disabilities and to figure out what are the educational services for supporting their sound dating experiences. To investigate these research questions, individual in-depth interviews with youths with intellectual disabilities and with their parents were implemented. Qualitative data were analyzed with Nvivo10 software according to the procedures of Thematic Analysis recommended by Braun and Clarke(2006). In terms of dating experiences of youths with intellectual disabilities, 5 themes were identified through data analysis: 1)the procedures of finding true love, 2) the personal experience making me special, 3) what normal people do, 4) something to take a risk, and 5) still difficult work because of disability. Based on their experiences, 4 educational services were recommended to help them maintain sound relationship with dating partners: 1) dating mentor system, 2) making approved dating groups, 3)teaching sexual self-determination skills, and 4) providing practical sex education curriculum. Discussions and implications on these findings will be addressed.
