본 논의는 운명담 중 점복담을 다룬다. 그 주인공이라 할 수 있는 점쟁이는 신분적으로 조선시대 최하층민이었으며, 대부분 맹인이었다는 점에서 신체적으로도 열등한 사람들이었다. 본 논의는 야담(과 필기)에 등장하는 유명한 점쟁이, 명복의 이야기를 통해 현실에서 어떤 인물이 처한 주변성이 담화 상에 어떻게 구현되는가 살펴보고자 한다. 본 논의는 점복담을 세 가지 유형, 즉 타인에 대해 점을 치는 것, 자신에 대해 점을 치는 것, 사람이 아닌 것에 대해 점을 치는 것으로 나누어 살펴보았다. 이들 유형에 공통으로 나타나는 것은 ‘-에도 불구하고’라는 일종의 위기 상황이다. 이는 예언의 실현을 불가능한 것처럼 만들거나, 현실과는 모순되는 지점이 점복담 안에 있음을 말한다. 이 위기 상황을 통해 일반인과 점쟁이 사이 앎의 차이가 명시화된다. 이렇게 점복담에서 명복은 특수한 능력을 가진 것으로 서사화 된다. 그러나 점복담은 점쟁이의 능력을 부각시키는 방향으로 담화화 되지 않는다. 점복담은 점복 주체의 다양한 자질이 재현될 가능성을 억제하면서 능력과 관련된 정보만을 반복하여 전달한다는 점에서 일종의 정박을 가진다. 정박은 점쟁이 형상을 하나의 기능에 고정시키면서 점쟁이의 역할을 점쟁이 존재와 동일시하게 한다. 또한 점쟁이는 주체로서의 위상을 확고하게 가지지 못한다. 예언하는 주체의 서사는 예언된 주체에 대한 서사로 활주할 가능성이 농후하기 때문이다. 담화에서는 점쟁이가 가지는 특수한 능력을 결국 천명과 전정의 위대함으로 귀결시키기도 한다. 점쟁이 형상의 제한성과 불안전성은 모두 동일한 기원을 가진다. 본고는 이것이 모두 점쟁이가 주변적이고 도구적 존재라는 데에서 기인한다고 본다.

This paper deals with stories of divination located between stories of destiny. The main characters, fortune tellers, were the lowest people in the society of the Joseon Dynasty and considered physically inferior because they were blind. This study examines how the minority of the person in reality is embodied in a discourse by searching for stories of the famous fortunetellers, Myeongbok[名卜], appearing in Yadam[野談] (and Pilgi[筆記]) This discussion is divided into three types, divination of another person, of oneself, and of something that is not a person. What appears to be common to these types is a kind of crisis This means that there are some points that make the fulfillment of prophecy impossible in the stories. This crisis situation clarifies the difference of knowing between the general public and the fortune teller. In this way, the Myeongbok are narrated as having a special ability. However, this discourse does not emphasize the power of the fortuneteller. There is a kind of anchor point in the stories. because they repetitively transmits only information related to the fortunetelling ability while suppressing the possibility of reproducing the personal qualities of the subject. This anchoring fixes the shape of fortune teller to one function and makes the fortune teller equal to the fortune telling role. Also, the fortuneteller does not have a solid position as a subject. The narrative of the prophetic subject is rich in possibilities of sliding into the narrative of the predicted subject. In the discourse, the special powers of the fortuneteller eventually lead to the greatness of Heaven’s will. The limitations and insecurities of the fortune-teller shape all have the same origin. due to the fact that the fortuneteller is treated as a peripheral and instrumental being.
