본 연구는 ‘모음 축약’으로 다루고 있는 음운 변동 현상을 ‘반모음 교체’로 수정해야 함을 제안하고, 반모음 교체에 대한 교육적 기술 방안을 모색하는 데 목적이 있다. ‘모음 축약’과 ‘반모음 교체’는 동일한 현상에 대한 서로 상이한 설명이기 때문에 교육 현장에 혼란을 주고 있는 상황이다. 이는 교육 과정 개정에 따라 음운 교육 내용이 보다 체계화되어 ‘교체’라는 범주가 설정되었음에도 세부내용이 일부 이에 맞추어 이루어지지 않았기 때문이며, 학습자들이 반모음을 음운으로 인식하는 데 어려움이 있기 때문이기도 하다. 이에 본고에서는 기존의 ‘모음 축약’을 ‘반모음 교체’ 현상으로 기술하는 방안과 함께, 반모음을 포함한 음운 개념 설명, 반모음의 기능 확인 활동, 반모음의 음성적 특성 및 반모음과 관련된 음운 변동 현상의 균형 잡힌 기술 등을 제안하였다.

This study aims to suggest that the phonological rule, which is described as ‘Vowel-coalescences’, should be revised to ‘Semivowelization’, and to find pedagogical description for semivowelizaion. We considered the Vowel-coalescences’ and ‘Semivowelization’, as confusing because they are different descriptions of the same phenomenon. The reason for this is that although the category of ‘substitution’ was established due to the revision of the curriculum, ‘Semivowelization’ belongs to ‘coalescence’ from before. Therefore, it is suggested that ‘Vowel-coalescences’ should be described as a phenomenon of ‘Semivowelization’, and conceptual recognition and related contents should be considered. We also proposed that the concept of phoneme including semivowels, learning function of semivowels, phonological characteristics of semivowels, balanced description of phonological rules related to semivowels should be involved.
