본 연구의 목적은 「洞仙記」에 인용된 典故의 기능을 밝히기 위한 것이다. 「동선기」의 특징은 작품에 수많은 전고가 인용되어 있다는 점인데, 「동선기」의 전고는 등장인물 간의 편지와 대화 속에 집중되어 있다. 전고의 분량은 작품의 1/3 가량이지만, 그 부분의 밀도는 다른 부분보다 훨씬 높다. 「동선기」에 사용된 전고는 대부분 修辭的인 것들인데, 문맥에 맞지 않거나 부적절한 전고의 인용도 확인된다. 「동선기」의 작자는 재자가인소설의 흥미로운 서사에다 전기소설의 미려한 문체를 아우르면서 자신의 지식과 文才까지 과시할 수 있는 소설을 쓰고 싶었던 것으로 추측된다. 「동선기」는 17세기 창작된 소설로 추정되는데, 17세기 한문소설 가운데는「동선기」처럼 많은 전고가 인용된 작품은 보이지 않는다. 그런데 조선 후기에는 작품의 내용보다는 지식과 文才의 과시에 창작의 목적이 놓여 있는 한문소설들이 출현하였다. 이런 종류의 소설들에는 다양한 문예 양식과 수많은 전고들이 서사를 압도할 정도로 과도하게 삽입되어 있다. 「동선기」는 이러한 흐름의 형성에 적지 않은 역할을 한 작품으로 생각된다.

The purpose of this study is to reveal the function of authentic precedents cited in Dongseon-gi. Dongseon-gi is characterized by the fact that countless authentic precedents are cited in the work. The authentic precedents of Dongseon-gi are concentrated in letters and conversations among the characters. Citations of authentic precedents account for about 1/3 of the entire text in Dongseon-gi, but the density of their meaning is much higher than other parts. The authentic precedents used in Dongseon-gi are mostly rhetorical, and some citations are out of context or inappropriate. It can be assumed that the author of Dongseon-gi wanted to embrace the interesting narration of a novel of wit and beauty as well as the elegant writing style of a fictional biography, while also displaying his knowledge and literary talent simultaneously. Dongseon-gi is presumably a 17th century novel. It is unique among the 17th century Sino-Korean Novels in that it cites many authentic precedents. However, the late Joseon period saw the advent of Sino-Korean Novels primarily written to show off the author’s knowledge and literary mastery instead of focusing on plot and content. Such Sino-Korean Novels are characterized by excessive insertions of various literary styles and citations of authentic precedents to the extent that they largely outweigh the narrative. Dongseon-gi is considered a significant driver of this literary trend in the late Joseon period.
