本稿の目的は1940年代の安部公房の思想の展開について調べ、それに影響を与えた文学と哲学思想を把握することである。 本稿は、1940年代に安部が創案したが、現在はその名前だけが知られている「新象徴主義（あるいは存在象徴主義）哲学」に注目する。そして、同時期に発表された『無名詩集』がこの哲学の内容を反映しつつ書かれており、特に散文詩「ソドムの死」は安部が自分の思想の発展過程を一つの物語を通じて表現していると仮定した。 この仮定によると、安部が聖書に登場するソドムを素材に採用したのは、 道徳が堕落した都市として有名なソドムを文学的デカダンスの象徴として立たせるためである。そして、この詩の主人公である三人の詩人がソドムを立ち去るのは、安部が象徴主義からデカダンスを排除したという意味に解釈で きる。離別した三人の詩人が各々経験する「凡庸の恐怖」、「知識の恐怖」、「孤独の恐怖」という試練は、安部がニーチェ、ハイデガー、リルケの哲学や文学を受け入れるようになった過程を意味する。その三人が十年後にソドムで再会し、一つに合体して新しい人間に生まれ変わる場面を通じて、安部は自分の新しい哲学が誕生するのを表現したというのが、本稿の結論である。

The purpose of this paper is to provide the broad outline of developing ideas of Abe Kobo in 1940's, and confirm literary and philosophical ideologies which had influences on him. This paper pays attentions to "Neo symbolism philosophy" (or "Existentialsymbolism philosophy") which Abe had created by himself in 1940's, but now remains only its name, and assumes Nameless Poems(無名詩集), which had published at the same period of time, reflects this philosophy, and especially The death of Sodom(ソドムの死), its only prose poem, expresses Abe's philosophical development process through a novelistic story. According to this assumtion, Abe uses the bible's Sodom fable as raw material for this prose poem because he wanted to suggest Sodom, which city notorious for its moral decay, as a symbol of literal decadence. And Leaving Sodom of 'three poets', the protagonists of this poem, means that decadence had beed excluded from Abe's symbolism. Had parted company, each of three poets has experienced 'the terror of mediocrity', 'the terror of knowledge', and 'the terror of loneliness'. All these sufferings imply the Abe's process of accepting the idea and literature of Nietzsche, Heidegger, and Rilke. After ten years, three poets got back to Sodom, reunited, and got became a newborn man. This paper comes to the conclusion that this scene describes the birth of Abe's new philosopy metaphorically.
