이 논문은 북한 문학의 특성을 이해하고 남북 문학의 소통을 목적으로 구성되었다. 남한에서 북한 문학에 대한 관심이 촉발되었던 시기는 두 번 있었다. 1980년대 중반 북한 바로알기 차원에서 북한 문학에 대한 관심이 촉발되었고, 2000년 남북정상회담을 계기로 북한 문학에 대한 관심이 높아졌었다. 북한 문학 연구는 주로 통일 문학사를 향한 남북 문학사 통합 연구로 집중되었다. 상대적으로 북한 문학 자체에 대한 연구는 미진하였다. 북한 문학을 문학으로 읽고 독해하기에는 문학적 지형 차이가 크다. 북한문학은 북한 사회의 지형 속에서 유효하다. 북한 문학을 읽고 남한 문학과의 공통성을 추출하는 작업은 갈수록 어려워진다. 북한 문학도 민족사적 관점에서 벗어나 문화번역의 관점에서 접근해야 할 때가 되었다.

There were about two periods when North Korea’s interest in literature was sparked in South Korea. In the mid-1980s, interest in North Korean literature began in order to get to know North Korea directly. The 2000 inter-Korean summit has raised interest in North Korean literature. Interest in North Korean literature was focused on the integrated study of the history of inter-Korean literature, mainly toward the history of unification. Relatively, the study of North Korean literature itself was naive. The difference in geography between the two Koreas is huge for reading and reading North Korean literature as literature. North Korean literature is valid in the geography of North Korean society. Reading North Korean literature and extracting commonality with South Korean literature are becoming increasingly difficult. Now is the time for North Korean literature to be approached from the official residence of cultural translators instead of from a historical perspective.
