본 연구는 외국인 유학생의 일상적 차별경험이 그날의 우울에 미치는 영향을 확인하고, 내부귀인대처 및 성향이 이 관계를 조절한다는 것을 밝히기 위하여 수행된 일기법(Daily Diary) 설문연구이다. 이를 위하여 국내 대학교에 재학 중인 외국인 유학생 61명을 대상으로 10일 간의 차별경험, 내부귀인대처, 우울 및 내부귀인성향을 측정하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 일상적 차별경험은 당일의 우울을 예측하였다. 둘째, 내부귀인대처 및 내부귀인성향은 차별과 우울의 관계를 조절하였다. 다만 내부귀인대처의 경우 차별경험과 우울의 관계를 대립시켰으며, 내부귀인성향의 경우 차별경험으로 인한 우울을 강화시켰다. 본 연구는 단회 측정 설문연구에서 널리 입증된 차별경험의 부정적인 영향력이 일상적 맥락에서도 동일하게 나타난다는 점을 밝혀, 외국인 유학생 연구의 방법론적 지평을 확대한다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 또한 내부귀인대처 및 내부귀인성향이 차별경험에 미치는 영향을 확인하여 외국인 유학생들의 적응과정 및 대처방식에 대한 상담자들의 이해를 돕는 기초자료를 제공하였다.

The present research examines the effects of international students' daily discrimination on depression, and identifies behavioral and dispositional internal attribution coping strategies that may play a moderating role in the process. 61 international students completed daily questionnaires for 10 days. The result of the study is as follows. Firstly, daily discrimination predicted daily depression. Second, internal attribution coping and internal attribution tendency moderated the relationship between discrimination and depression. However, internal attribution coping conflicted the discrimination-depression relationship and internal attribution dispositions strengthened the depression due to discrimination experience. This study is meaningful in that it broadens the methodological boundaries of international student studies by revealing that the negative effects of discrimination experiences also appears on a daily basis, which was widely proven in the single measure surveys. Furthermore, this study provided basic data to help counselors understand the adaptation process and the coping methods of international students by identifying the effects of internal attribution coping and internal attribution tendency on discrimination experiences.
