사람들의 도움, 추천, 격려, 조언이나 정보제공, 롤모델과의 만남 등 사람들과 관련된 우연한 관계경험은 진로결정과정에서 빈번하게 나타나는 우연요소이다. 개인은 사람들과의 우연한 관계 경험을 통해 진로를 결정하는 과정에서 진로를 결정하게 한 강렬한 체험이 수반되었을 것으로 예상된다. 이에 본 연구에서는 상담자의 진로결정과정에서 체험한 우연한 관계 경험의 양상과 진로결정의 핵심요인을 탐색하기 위해 우연한 관계 경험을 통해 진로결정을 한 연구 대상자 18명을 선정하고 근거이론 방법(Strauss & Corbin, 1998)을 적용하였다. 본 연구 결과, 첫째, 개방 코딩을 통해 면담 자료를 개념화 및 범주화한 결과, 98개의 개념, 43개의 하위범주, 그리고 25개의 상위범주가 도출되었다. 둘째, 우연한 관계 경험을 만난 상담자의 진로결정과정에 대한 핵심 범주는 ‘우연한 만남에서 깊은 감명을 받고 상담에 끌려, 진지한 성찰을 통해 상담자가 되기로 함’으로 나타났다. 특히, 진로결정과정에서 우연한 관계 경험에서 합리적인 선택보다는 체험한 정서, 직관적 사고와 의미부여, 관계에서의 상호작용 등 개인의 주관적 맥락의 역할이 중요하였다. 이를 기반으로 개인적 측면, 맥락적 측면, 행동적 측면의 가설적 관계에 대한 실체이론을 제시하였다. 마지막으로, 연구결과를 토대로 우연한 관계 경험의 개념 도출, 우연한 관계 경험에서 상담자로의 진로결정과정과 요인에 대해 논의하고 본 연구의 의의, 제한점, 시사점을 제시하였다.

Happenstantial relationship experiences with people such as people's help, recommendations, encouragement, advice or information, and meeting with role models were the frequent factor in career decision process. Individuals are expected to be accompanied an intensive experiences that led them to decide the career in the career decision process through the happenstantial relationship experiences with people. To explore the aspect of happenstantial relationship experiences and the main factors of career decision in the decision making process, theoretical sampling method was used to recruited 18 participants who reported career decision making through an happenstantial relationship experience and the main procedure of the grounded theory method was conducted(Strauss & Corbin, 1998), and the results were analyzed. First, through open coding process, 98 concepts, 43 subcategories, and 25 upper categories were derived. Second, The core category regarding career decision making of the counselor who experienced happenstantial relationship was ‘to be a counselor through serious introspection’, because the counselors were impressed by happenstantial encounter and were drawn to counseling. In particular, the roles of the subjective context of individuals such as experienced emotions, intuitive thinking, meaningfulness and interactions in relationships were more important than the rational choice in happenstantial relationship experience in career decision making.. Based on this result, substance theory about hypothetical relationship among the three domains of personal, contextual, and behavioral aspects are summarized according to the ground theory. At last, based on the results of this study, the concept of happenstantial relationship experience, the process and factors of career decision making from the happenstantial relationship experience to be a counselor were discussed, and implications, limitations of this study were presented.
