이 연구는 성인기 발달장애자녀 어머니의 경험을 심층적으로 분석하여 발달장애자녀의 성인기 전환을 준비하고 어머니의 부담을 경감할 수 있는 기초자료를 마련하는데 목적이 있다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위하여 유의표집방법을 통해 4명의 연구참여자들을 선정하였고, 2018년 5월부터 7월까지 심층면접을 진행하였다. 연구결과는 첫째, 성인기 이전의 발달장애자녀와 어머니의 생활경험은 학령전기에는 끝없는 치료와 교육의 연속이었고, 학령기에는 자녀가 학교에 입학하면서 학교교육으로 인한 시간적 여유를 가질 수 있는 시기였다. 둘째, 성인기 발달장애자녀와 어머니의 생활경험은 고등학교 졸업시기에는 막막함과 가정으로 회귀를 해야 하는 시기였고, 성인 초기에는 안정과 불안의 연속이었으며, 자녀 미래에 대한 깊은 고민의 시기였다. 셋째, 발달장애자녀의 성인기 전환을 위한 준비과정은 성인 발달장애자녀의 특성을 이해하고, 가족과의 협력이 중요하며, 성인 발달장애인을 사회의 관심과 지원이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과를 토대로 실천적 함의를 제시하였고, 발달장애자녀의 성공적인 성인기 전환을 위한 제도적인 지원과 서비스가 필요함을 제언하였다.

The purpose of this study is to produce the basic data to enable children with developmental disorders to prepare for the transition to adulthood and to relieve mothers of burden by conducting a deep analysis of the experiences of mothers who have adult children with developmental disorders. To achieve this purpose, we selected 4 study participants through the purposeful sampling method and carried out in-depth interviews from May to July, 2018. The study result was categorized in three: First, the life experiences of mothers and children with developmental disorders prior to adulthood. Second, the life experiences of mothers and children with developmental disorders in adulthood. Three, the preparatory process of mothers for their children’s transition to adulthood Based on the result, the study suggests implications for implementation and implies that Institutional support and service are needed to allow children with developmental disorders to make a successful transition to adulthood.
