Local cities face the risk of extinction due to extremely low birth rates and aging population. The total population of Jeju is growing but the population of sub-local is diverse. The purpose of this study is to point out the limit that the result can be changed according to the unit of space in order to grasp the population change of the region and to suggest a suitable unit of space to identify the local population. To do this, we surveyed and analyzed the population change by Jeju area with population growth rate, coefficient of variation, and Moran's I. from 2010 to 2017. This study emphasizes the possibility of distorting according to spatial units in regional analysis including population and emphasizes the importance of applying proper spatial unit. However, this study has a limitation that it can not deal with population movement data in the analysis process.
