이 연구는 고전문학을 학생들에 좀 더 쉽고 재미있게 접근시키기 위해 시작되었다. 그 과정에서 고려가요 <가시리>의 현대적 변용작품으로 영화 ‘귀향’의 OST인 <가시리>에 대해 연구를 진행하였고 이를 바탕으로 대학교육에서 고전시가가 나아가야 할 방향에 대해 하나의 의견을 제시하였다. ‘고전문학’은 지루하고 재미없고 현대에는 필요가 없는 분야가 아니다. 고전은 시대를 초월한 보편적 정서를 담고 있으며 사회가 급속하게 변하고 개성을 중시하는 현대사회에 반드시 필요한 분야라고 할 수 있다. 고전시가는 그 시대의 가장 인기 있는 노래라고 할 수 있다. 고전시가를 문학으로 배우는 학생들에게 흥미를 끌지 못하는 것은 당연하다. 하지만 은희지의 <가시리>는 현대음악이기에 학생들은 지루함을 느끼지 않고 더욱이 영화의 스토 리텔링과 맞물려 시너지 효과를 준다. 영화 ‘귀향’은 2002년에 개봉될 예정이었으나, 2016년이 되어서야 개봉됐다. 13년이라는 매우 긴 제작 기간을 거쳐야 했던 이유는 제작비의 부족과 외부세력의 억압때문이다. 약 20만 명의 16세의 젊은 소녀들이 위안부로 끌려갔지만 단지 238명의 여자만이 고향으로 돌아올 수 있었다. 2018년 7월 1일 김복득 할머니의 죽음으로 생존자는 27명밖에 남지 않았다. 영화 속 <가시리>는 원작과는 다른 방식으로 소녀들의 슬픔, 분노의 감정을 드러내면서 영화의 분위기를 고조시킨다. 왜 감독은 <가시리>라는 작품을 택했을까? 그것은 아마 죽어서 나비가 되어서라도 고향으로 돌아가고 싶은 희망을 전하고 싶었기 때문이다. 위안부 영화 ‘귀향의 <가시리>는 고려가요 <가시리>를 변용하여 현대사회에서도 고전시가가 왜 필요한지를 보여주었다. 또한 스토리텔링의 시대에서 고전시가가 나아가야 할 방향성을 제시해 준다.

The study was begun to make classical literature easier and more interesting to students. Let’s consider it in the process. I’ve studied the modern adaptation of “Gasili”, the OST of “Spirits’ Homecoming”. Furthermore, ‘Japanese military sexual slavery’ developed the argument about history and literature. Classical literature is not a field that is boring, dull, and not needed in modern times. The classics contain a universal sentiment that goes beyond the times and are an essential part of a modern society where society changes rapidly and values individuality. Classical poetry is the most popular song of the time. No wonder they don’t appeal to students learning classic poetry as literature. However, as OST of “Gasili” is modern music, students do not feel bored, but also combine with movie storytelling to create synergy. The film was supposed to be released in 2002, but it wasn’t released until 2016. The reason why it had to go through such a long 13-year production period is the lack of production costs and the suppression of external forces. About 200,000 16 - to young girls taken into Japanese military sexual slavery, but only 238 women were able to return to my hometown. Kim’s death on July 1, 2018 left only 27 survivors. “Gasili” in the movie raises the mood of the movie, showing the feelings of sadness and anger of the girls in a different way from the original one.
