한 개인은 삶의 전 과정을 통하여 타고난 본성과 양육 환경뿐만 아니라 다양한 내적·외적 환경의 영향을 받게 된다. 개인은 연령에 따른 생물학적, 사회적 특징을 가지며, 그가 처한 특수한 생활환경에 따라 비규범적인 발달 경험을 가질 수도 있다. 본 연구에서는 초국가적 이주를 선택한 베트남여성 L씨의 삶을 통하여 베트남의 사회·문화적 배경이 반영된 가족과 지역공동체 안에서 요구되는 딸로서의 역할기대와 수행능력과의 갈등 사이에서 생성된 자아가 시대적 상황에 따라 한 주체적인 여성으로서 표출되고 완성되어가는 과정을 생애사 연구방법으로 살펴보았다. L씨의 아동기는 베트남 전쟁이후 근검절약을 강조하던 당시의 경제적 상황과 사회적 지도계층인 부모님의 자녀로서 당연시되었던 모범적인 우등생이기를 바라는 기대에 부응하지 못함에 대한 주위의 실망 섞인 평가, 그러한 주변의 분위기에 오히려 강한 자의식으로 저항을 드러낸 시기였다. 한편, L씨의 청년기는 한·베간 교류가 활발해지기 시작한 시기로서, 이러한 시기적 요구에 적절하게 기회를 획득함으로서 주변으로부터 자신의 존재에 대한 재평가를 받게 되었으며, 그 결과 가족과 주변환경에서 벗어나 자기자신이라는 존재의 의미에 대한 재평가를 추구하는 시간이었다. 청년기의 L씨에게서의 기회가 베트남에서 찾은 한국이었다면, 성년기의 L씨에게는 한국에서 찾게 된 베트남이 기회였다. 한국기업의 베트남 진출은 베트남어와 한국어에 능통한 인재를 필요로 했고, 베트남으로부터의 결혼이주여성과 노동자의 급격한 증가는 이들과 한국인들과의 언어·문화적인 괴리를 메워줄 수 있는 인재를 필요로 했다. L씨는 끊임없는 도전으로 베트남과 한국의 사회적인 필요성에 적극적으로 동참하는 기회를 획득했다. 본 연구를 통하여 L씨의 생애주기의 각 전환점에 있어서, 특히 아동기에는 개인의 선택과 자기결정에 가족 및 지역공동체가 중요한 영향을 미쳤으며, 청년기와 성인기에 있어서의 삶의 선택은 한국과 베트남을 둘러싼 시대적상황과 직·간접적으로 연계되어 있다는 점을 확인할 수 있었다.

An individual is influenced by diverse internal and external environments as well as his or her inborn nature and nurturing environment over the course of his or her life. An individual has different biological and social characteristics according to age and may have non-normative developmental experiences due to the specific life environment he or she is faced with. This study examined the life of L, a Vietnamese woman who opted for transnational migration, and looked at the process of her ego, which was created among conflicts between expectation about her role as a daughter within her family and the local community reflecting Vietnam’s sociocultural background and her performance ability, being revealed and fully developed as an autonomous female according to the temporal situation. L’s childhood was characterized by the economic situation of the times when thrift and saving were emphasized as virtues after the Vietnamese War, disappointment with her by those surrounding her as she did not live up to their expectations of her being an exemplary honor student as a child of her parents who were socially high ranked, and her resistance with strong self-consciousness against such ambient situations. Meanwhile, L’s adolescence started when active exchanges between Korea and Vietnam were initiated. She was reevaluated by surrounding people as she appropriately obtained opportunities in response to such temporal demands. As a result, she sought to reevaluate the meaning of her existence, away from her family and surrounding environment. While L was in Vietnam during her adolescence, she found her opportunities from Korea. However, she found her opportunities from Vietnam while she stayed in Korea during her adulthood. Many Korean companies expanding to Vietnam required human resources proficient both in Vietnamese and Korean, and with a surge of marriage migrant women and laborers from Vietnam in Korea, there was a need for human resources who could help narrow linguistic and cultural gaps between them and Koreans. Through incessant efforts, L gained the opportunities to actively meet the social needs of Vietnam and Korea. By examining each turning point of L’s life cycle, this study confirmed that her selection and self-decision were significantly affected by her family and local community during her childhood and her life choices in her adolescence and adulthood were directly and indirectly associated with the temporal situations of Korea and Vietnam.
