본 연구는 우리 다문화교육의 현주소를 파악하기 위하여 Banks의 다문화교육 접근법을 분석틀로 하여 다문화 정책학교의 다문화교육을 분석하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 「표준한국어」와 「디딤돌」에서는 기여적 접근법과 부가적 접근법이 주를 이루고 있다. 그러나 사회과 「스스로 배우는 교과 속 어휘」에서는 4가지 접근법이 모두 발견된다. 둘째, 교과 영역에서는 전체적으로 부가적 접근법이 많은 가운데, 중학교는 기여적 접근법이 더 많고, 초등 예비학교는 변혁적 접근법도 활용하고 있다. 사회실천적 접근법을 실천하는 학교는 하나도 없다. 셋째, 비교과 영역에서도 부가적 접근법이 가장 많다. 특히 초등 중점학교 와 중학교 예비학교가 그렇다. 초등학교는 변혁적 접근법과 사회실천적 접근법도 발견되나, 중학교는 교과 및 비교과 모든 영역에서 기여적 접근법과 부가적 접근법 활용에 그치고 있다. 일부 초등학교는 국어와 사회 교과 및 창의적 체험활동으로 변혁적 접근법을, 혁신학교인 행복학교는 PBL 또는 프로젝트 수업에서 캠페인활동으로 사회실천적 접근법을 활용하고 있다. 결론적으로 현재 다문화교육은 단편적 문화요소를 가르치는 기여적 접근법과 문화를 단순 비교하는 부가적 접근법이 주를 이루고 있다. 주류집단의 관점을 지양하고, 편견과 차별을 넘어 평등교육으로 나아가기 위해서는 보다 더 변혁적 접근법과 사회실천적 접근법 활용이 요구된다.

This paper analyzes the educational approaches taken by the Multicultural Prep Schools and Multicultrual Center Schools based on Banks’ four multicultrual approaches. After analyzing, this paper concludes the following: first, approach implemented by the multicultrual text books are the contribution approach and additive approach. Second, based on the analysis of the Multicultural Education Result Report, the curriculum of the Multicultural Prep School tend to adopt the additive approach, while that of the Multicultural Center Schools tend to adopt the contribution approach. None of the Schools have adopted the socal action approach. Third, in the extra-curriculum, the elementary-level Multicultural Center Schools as well as the Multicultrual Prep Schools implement the additive approach, while the Innovation Schools implement the socal action approach. Based on these, this paper suggests that the Multicultural Prep Schools and Multicultural Center Schools implement more of the transformation and social action approaches in their multicultrual education to achieve equal education.
