이 연구의 목적은 결혼이주여성들이 협동조합을 활용해 아래로부터의 운동으로서 다문화교육을 어떻게 실천하는지 분석하는 것이다. 이를 위해 결혼이주여성 자조공동체를 중심으로 구성된 B협동조합의 여성 6명을 대상으로 수업 참여관찰과 심층인터뷰를 함으로써 이들이 다문화교육을 수행하는 과정에서 에스닉 노동의 한계를 극복하는 방식을 살펴보았다. 연구 결과 결혼이주여성 자조공동체가 중심이 된 사회적경제는 여성들로 하여금 다문화강사로 계속 일할 수 있다는 믿음을 주는 동시에 실질적 일자리 기회를 제공하고, 사회적 가치에 공감하게 함으로써 에스닉 일자리의 한계를 극복하게 하는 것으로 나타났다. 결혼이주여성들의 주체적 업무분담과 수평적 관계 형성, 민주적 의사소통 등은 이주민이 주체가 될 때 대안적 다문화교육과 다문화주의의 내용이 구성될 수 있음을 보여준다.

The purpose of this study is to analyze how marriage-migrant women practice multicultural education as a movement from below using cooperatives. For this purpose, this study conducted participant observation and in-depth interviews with six women in Cooperative B. Through these methods, it examined how marriage-migrant women overcame the limitations of ethnic labor in the process of multicultural education. The results of this study are as follows. The social economy, centered on marriage-migrant women’s self-help communities, overcame the limitation of ethnic jobs by offering practical job opportunities and simultaneous beliefs for continuous employment to marriage-migrant women, and making them sympathetic for the goals and values of the society. This study suggests that alternative multicultural education and multiculturalism can be constructed when marriage-migrant women take charge of work, form horizontal relationships, and communicate democratically.
