본고는 최근 학계에 새롭게 소개된 이동(李東) 가사(歌辭) 가운데 가족과의 사별을 다룬 작품에 주목하였다. 작자는 자신보다 먼저 세상을 떠난 세 사람-여동생, 딸, 남편-에 관한 가사를 남겼는데 <형이 아우계 졔문>, <□의 애연 심회>, <부부이별가>가 그것이다. 본고에서는 세 작품을 중심으로 가족 사별의 서술 특징과 기억 환기의 양상을 살펴보았다. 먼저 <형이 아우계 졔문>은 62세에 사망한 여동생을 위해 지은 제문가사로, 망자를 향해 반복적으로 호명하는 점과 망자의 애도에 그치지 않고 ‘나’의 사연을 중심으로 서술이 이동하는 점이 특징적이다. 또한 여동생에 대한 기억이 모두 작자의 자식과 관련되어 환기되는 점이 흥미로운데, 6.25 전쟁 때 작은아들네 식구를 보호해 준 에피소드가 소개되고 여동생과 같은 해에 사망한 외동딸이 연상 기억되고 있는 양상을 보인다. <□의 애연 심회>는 외동딸이 38세에 요절한 후 23년이 지나 회갑제사를 맞게 된 때에 지은 가사로, 회갑제사의 제문으로서의 성격이 포착되고 ‘모녀이별’의 사연에 서술이 집중되는 점이 특징적이다. 딸의 죽음을 전후로 한 시기의 안타깝고 원통한 기억이 생생하게 환기되는 양상을 보인다. <부부이별가>는 남편이 48세에 사망하고 38년이 지난 후 작자 나이 88세에 지은 작품으로, 노년에 지어진 만큼 인생을 회고하는 자전적 술회 양상이 두드러진다. 남편 임종 시의 기억을 생생히 환기하면서 당시의 심정을 토로하고 홀로 지내온 세월이 외로웠음을 고백하고 있다. <형이 아우계 졔문>이 환갑을 넘겨 세상을 떠난 여동생의 사연을 담고 있는 데 비해 <□의 애연 심회>와 <부부이별가>는 제명대로 살지 못한 딸과 남편의 사연을 담고 있기에 비애의 정도가 깊고 그들의 죽음에 대한 죄책감도 포착된다. 작자는 가사를 통해 가족 사별의 상처를 드러내고 스스로 다독일 수 있었던 것으로 보이는데, 단순한 서정의 토로에 그치지 않고 기억 중심의 섬세한 서사 구사력을 보인 점이 주목할 만하다.

The aim of this paper is to examine the characteristics of narrative of family bereavement and aspects of recall her memory in Lee dong’s gasa. She wrote gasa for her dead family-younger sister, daughter, husband. The title of the gasa are < A funeral song for younger sister >, < A sad heart for a daughter >, < A farewell song of couple >. < A funeral song for younger sister > is a mourning for her younger sister who died at the age of 62. It is characteristic that the repeated call of the dead and the movement of the narrative by herself. And it is interesting that the memory of the sister is all related to the children of the author. < A sad heart for a daughter > was written for daughter who died at the age of 38 on her 60th birthday memorial ceremony. The character of the funeral song is captured and the narrative is concentrated in the story of mother and daughter. It is noteworthy that the unforgettable and memorable memory of the time around the death of her daughter is vividly evoked. < A farewell song of couple > was written when she was 88 years old for her husband who died at the age of 48. The aspect of the autobiography of old age is prominent in this work, and the memory of her husband's death is vividly depicted. She confesses that she has been lonely all alone. Lee dong seems to have been able to expose hurt and comfort herself by recording her family memories through the gasa. It is noteworthy that Lee dong’s gasa showed not only a simple lyrical poem but also excellent narrative ability.
