우리나라는 전자통신기술의 혁신적인 발전과 무선 인터넷의 확산 및 보급으로 인해 전자상거래 등의 전자시장이 그 영역을 넓혀가고 있다. 이러한 배경 하에 전자지급결제수단으로 전자화폐, 전자지급결제방식으로 모바일뱅킹이 가장 큰 두각을 보이고 있다. 국내의 전자화폐의 경우 발급장수는 도입 이후 꾸준히 증가하고 있으나, 총금액은 점차 감소하는 추세를 보이고 있어 활성화가 이루어지지 못하고 있는 상황이며, 모바일뱅킹 역시 도입 이후 그 시장영역은 꾸준히 증가하고 있으나, 여타 다른 지급결제방식과는 상대적으로 아직 걸음마 단계라 할 수 있겠다. 한편 국외의 전자시장이 선진화 되어있는 일본 및 싱가포르, 홍콩 등의 경우 전자화폐와 모바일뱅킹의 활성화로 인해 전자시장의 그 가치영역은 더욱 더 증대되고 있으며, 이러한 전자시장의 선진화로 인해 국가적 차원에서 경쟁력을 갖춰 나아가고 있다. 따라서 우리나라 역시 점차 확대되고 있는 전자시장의 활성화를 위해 해외 선진화된 나라들의 전자화폐 및 모바일뱅킹의 편리성 향상과 그 활용성의 확대 및 기술력 제고, 정부의 적극적인 참여를 토대로 전자시장의 활성화를 이루며 국가적 경쟁력을 갖춰 나가야 할 것이다.

With innovative development of IT technology and expanded distribution of mobile Internet, Korea has witnessed ever growing e-Marketplace sector including e-Commerce. Against this backdrop, mobile banking has emerged as the most important e-Payment system on the back of e-Cash and e-Settlement. Since it was introduced to Korea, the number of issuances of e-Cash has continued to increase, but the total amount has been gradually reduced without continuous facilitation. Since its introduction, mobile banking has also continued to grow, but it is still at its infancy compared to other e-Settlement methods. In the meantime, advanced e-Marketplace countries including Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong have experienced drastic development in the sector on the strength of facilitated e-Cash and mobile banking and strengthened competitiveness through advancement of e-Marketplace at national level. In this regard, Korea needs to facilitate e-Marketplace in an effort to strengthen national competitiveness by referring to improvement convenience, expanded use and advanced technologies of e-Cash and mobile banking in advanced countries on the back of proactive governmental participation.
