本稿は天草版『平家物語』(天草本)の「地の文」の敬語を原據本である覺一本『平家物語』(覺一本)と對照し、語り手の敬語意識を中心として考察したものである。その結果は次のようである。 一、天草本にだけ登場する「地の文」の例を分析した結果、まず、天草本の語り手である喜一は聞き手の右馬に對する敬意を充實に表していた。また、覺一本の場合は聞き手に對する敬意は主體尊敬語や客體尊敬語が擔っているのに對し、天草本の「地の文」では語り手によって中世後期に發達した丁寧語がよく反映されていた。 二、兩本の「地の文」に敬語の差が見られるのは、時間の差から生じた敬語の語形變化と用法の變化による例が多かった。また天草本の語り手が用いた敬語の中には覺一本の客體尊敬語が主體尊敬語に變わった例もあったが、これは文脈を理解するのに大きな役割をしていた。場合によっては天草本の語り手は身分に相應しい敬語ではなく、登場人物を立體化するため、場面の描寫に必要な效果を表わす敬語を用いた例も見られる。 三、兩本の「地の文」で敬語の加除として現れた特徵は、まず天草本の語り手は身分があまり高くない人に對しても低い敬意を表わしていた用例が多い点である。しかしこれに反して、覺一本に用いられた登場人物に對する主體尊敬語や客體尊敬語が省略され、物り語が持っている表現效果を極大化した例もあった。

This studies the narrator’s honorific in how to compare honorific languages of the「descriptive part」of Amakusaban『Heike monogatar』and Kakuichibon 『Heike monogatari』. The results are as follow. The first, a conspicuous feature of Amakusaban「descriptive part」is the narrator who is Kiichi(喜一) uses honorific to listener who is Uma(右馬). Furthermore, the honorific expression and polite language are done the honorific to listener but, the narrator of Kakuichibon expresses the honorific to listener as using polite language that developed during the late Middle Ages. The second, when using the different honorific in the 「descriptive part」of the two books, there are lots of the change due to inflection and change of use. Also, there are the parts diverted from polite language to honorific language. These are useful for understanding the context. The narrator of Amakusaban dosen’t sometimes use honorific to the social status but, does honorific to have an effect that is dimensionality and necessity for describing a scene. The last, a feature introduced by insertion and deletion in the「descriptive par t」is lots of examples that are used honorific to character are not hight in social. On the other hand, according to the situation, there are examples in which maximization effect of Katarimono(storytelling) is maximized by omitting the honorific or polite language to the characters used in the perception.
