This study examined the way emotional expressions are spoken and used and their characteristics by classifying emotions into 10 categories in Korean and Japanese languages. Looking at the speaking patterns of joy(喜), Japanese language has intensively used speaking patterns both in speaking a singular of expression and plural of expression, but in case of Korean language, more diverse speaking patterns are found. As for the use of the speaking patterns of anger(怒), little difference appears in the overall distribution of use, but in speaking a singular of expression, the mostly used speaking pattern in Japanese is different from the mostly used speaking pattern in Korean. Looking at the use of the speaking patterns of like (好), in case of speaking a singular of expression, Japanese is centered around ‘emotional expression of emotion language’ and ‘explanation of reason’, but in Korean, along with these two speaking patterns, ‘demand of agreement’ is also used a lot. In terms of the use of the speaking patterns of dislike(厭), in case of speaking a singular of expression, in Japanese, ‘emotional expression of emotion language’ is used a lot more than ‘demand of prohibition’, but in Korean, ‘demand of prohibition’ is also used a lot in comparison to Japanese. As for the use of the speaking patterns of surprise(驚), both in Japanese and Korean, exclamation words are preferred to express the emotion of surprise(驚). In terms of the use of the speaking patterns of excitement(昻), more diverse patterns are used in Korean than in Japanese.
