본 연구는 통일 관련 역대 대통령 연설문에서 두드러지게 사용된 언어 형식에 주목하여 동성(transitivity) 체계의 선택으로 생성되는 의사소통적 의미를 분석하기 위한 목적으로 진행되었다. 사회문화적인 맥락에서 담화 공동체의 언어를 비판적으로 성찰하기 위하여 체계기능언어학의 관점에서 텍스트의 과정 유형의 선택을 분석하였다. 특히 대통령 연설문의 주요 특징인 대명사 ‘우리’의 사용을 중심으로 언어 주체와 과정의 주체가 어떠한 관계를 맺고 있는지를 탐색하였다. 2장에서는 체계기능언어학에서의 동성 체계를 설명하고, 이러한 동성 체계를 메타적으로 탐구하는 일의 가치를 논의하였다. 더불어 그간 정치 담화 분석에서 이루어진 대통령 연설문의 언어적 특징을 정리하였다. 이후 3장에서는 통일 관련 역대 대통령 연설문 말뭉치 구축 과정을 밝히고 각 말뭉치에 드러난 대명사 ‘우리’의 사용을 검토하였다. 4장에서는 대통령 연설문에 나타난 과정 유형의 선택과 인식을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, ‘행위적 과정’이 지배적으로 나타났으며 대통령 연설문마다 언어 주체와 과정의 주체를 달리 설정함으로써 청자와의 관계를 형성하고 특정 의도와 인식을 텍스트 내에 구현하고 있음을 파악할 수 있었다.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the communicative meaning generated by the choice of transitivity system, paying attention to the language forms used prominently in the presidential speeches related to unification. In order to critically reflect on the language of discourse community in a socio-cultural context, the choice of process type of text was analyzed from the point of view of systemic functional linguistics. In particular, the study explores the relationship between the linguistic subject and the subject of the process surrounding the use of the pronoun ‘we’. The Chapter 2 describes the transitivity systems in systemic functional linguistics, and discusses the value of exploring them meta-tively. It also compiled the linguistic features of the presidents’ speeches found during the course of analyses of political speeches. Chapter 3 reveals the process of corpus construction and reviews the use of the pronoun 'we' that appears in each corpus. Chapter 4 analyzes the choice and perception of the process type shown in the presidential speeches. The analysis shows that the ‘behavioral processes’ are dominant. Through the study it was also possible to see that the presidential speeches had a particular intention and awareness by setting up a different linguistic subject and subject of the process.
