A Study on the Employment of Short-term Workers in the Convention Industry

Purpose - The convention industry recognizes that human capital is a key component of industry development. The industry employs more short-term workers because the industry focuses on one-off or temporary events due to the nature of the industry. But so far, there has been a lack of research on hiring short-term workers in the convention industry. Design, Data and Methodology - In this study, Giorgi 's phenomenological research method (2004) is used to identify the current situation of short - term employee recruitment in the domestic convention industry and propose a future study direction. Nine subjects were selected based on suitability and sufficiency for study sampling. The in-depth interviews were conducted based on the subject's personal experience with five categories of questions for one month in November 2017. The study examined current wage levels at the time of recruitment of working standards and short-term workers, And to examine the implications of the overall effect on the wage structure of the convention industry. Result - As a result of examining short-term recruitment results by classifying conventions, exhibitions, and events, it was found that the labor cost of the short-term workforce who worked as the on-site workforce was higher than that of the short-term contractor. Also, in the case of the short-term workforce, the labor cost of the convention field worker was about 7,000 won lower than the work cost of the exhibition and event field worker, and found that the work time was one hour longer. The results of interviews with executives of PCOs directly hiring personnel recognized that short-term manpower selection criteria were high, while the treatment was not at that level. Conclusion - As a result, the short-term workforce may be an excellent human resource in the industry, but it lacks policy support. In order to raise the labor cost due to the minimum wage, the domestic PCO needs to establish a new strategy in the future.
