조선 후기 박제가를 필두로 연작 회인시는 유행처럼 퍼져나갔다. 대상 인물은 師弟나 同學, 혹은 친인척이 대부분으로, 그들에 대한 애정에서 창작된 것이 바로 연작 회인시이다. 그러나 그 내면을 들여다보면 그리 밝지만은 않은 삶이 깃들어 있다. 知音과 연대의식을 통해 한 시대를 살아갔던 이들의 고뇌의 흔적이 연작 회인시에 고스란히 담겨 있다. 국내 문인을 대상으로 한 작품을 통해, 당대 문인들의 네트워크는 물론 학술 경향까지 파악할 수 있다. 나아가 개화, 을미사변, 경술국치, 의병 등의 혼란한 시대상도 담겨 있으며, 그러한 현실을 타개하려는 당대 지식인의 다양한 노력도 연작 회인시를 통해 확인할 수 있다. 국제적인 교유와 교류가 활발해지면서, 중국이나 일본 문인을 대상으로 한 연작 회인시도 지어졌다. 역관 등의 중인 계층이 그 주축이 되어 문화교류의 양상을 보이기도 했다. 또한 당대 중국의 학술 경향을 파악했으며, 그러한 경향이 그대로 조선에 전해지기도 했다. 당시 중국 역시 청일전쟁, 아편전쟁 등으로 인해 혼란한 상황이었고 난국을 타개하려는 노력이 이어졌다. 이를 직접 목도한 조선 지식인은 차츰 국제적인 안목과 식견을 갖추게 되었고, 이를 통해 조선의 현실을 들여다보고 그 대안을 제언하기도 했다. 본고에서 소개한 연작 회인시는 아주 일부에 불과하다. 연작 회인시에 지속적인 관심을 갖고 이를 통시적 혹은 공시적으로 엮어 읽는다면, 당대 문인의 자화상뿐만 아니라 당대 국내외의 상황을 들여다보는데 유용한 창이 될 것이다.

With Park Je-ga at the center of the Joseon Dynasty, a series of Repeated Longing Poems spread like fashion. The target characters were mostly teachers, disciples and relatives, and they were created in love for them. But inside, there is a life that is not very bright. There are signs of suffering for those who lived for one generation. Through the works of Korean writers, one can understand the academic trends of Joseon Dynasty. Furthermore, there are times of confusion, and various efforts of intellectuals of the time to overcome such reality can be seen. As international exchanges and exchanges become more active, works were also built for Chinese and Japanese writers. The middle class became the main pillar of the society and showed the aspect of cultural exchange. In addition, the scholarly trends of China in the present day were grasped, and such tendencies were conveyed to Joseon. China was also in a chaotic situation and continued efforts to overcome the crisis. The Joseon intellectuals who devised the plan in person gradually developed an international insight and insight, which led them to take a look at the reality of Joseon and suggest the alternative. The work presented here is only a small part. If you continue to pay attention and compile them in a regular or public manner, it will be a useful window for not only self-portrait of contemporary writers but also for taking a look at the situation at home and abroad.
