본 연구는 중·고등학교 특수학급 경도 지적장애 남학생의 성과 성교육에 대한 인식에 대해 살펴보았다. 연구참여자는 중학교와 고등학교 특수학급에 재학 중인 경도 지적장애 남학생 6명으로, 자료 수집은 개별면담과 집단면담을 통해 이루어졌다. 본 연구를 통해 도출된 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 경도 지적장애 남학생들은 ‘성’에 대하여 남자와 여자, 연인, 섹스 등을 떠올렸고, 이성교제를 하지 못한 것에 대해 아쉬움과 두려움을 나타내었으며, 스스로 이성간의 스킨십의 정도를 정해놓았고, 일반적으로 이성과 성을 금기시하는 양육환경 안에서 성장한 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 경도 지적장애 남학생들은 선정적인 동영상(야동)에 대하여 계속적인 접속을 하고 있으면서도 야동과 자위에 대한 과도한 죄책감을 가지고 있었다. 마지막으로, 경도 지적장애 남학생들은 학교 성교육에 대해 무의미하게 느끼고 있었고, 각자의 선호하는 방법으로 성교육을 받기를 원하고 있었다. 따라서 성교육을 실시할 때, 경도 지적장애 남학생들이 자신의 성에 대하여 긍정적이고 올바르게 바라볼 수 있는 성 인식을 심어주는 내용을 포함해야 하고, 지적장애 특성을 고려하여 성교육의 내용을 효과적으로 기억하고 학습할 수 있는 방안을 강구해야 하며, 이들의 흥미와 관심을 고려하여 성교육의 내용과 방법을 결정해야 할 것이다.
The purpose of this study was to examine the sexual consciousness of male students with mild intellectual disabilities in the secondary special classes and their perception towards sex education. The participants of this study were six male students with mild intellectual disabilities in the special classes of secondary schools. The researcher drew up questionnaire guideline to conduct personal or group interviews for two or three times. The results and discussions are as follows. First, the male students with mild intellectual disabilities in the special classes of secondary schools were the same as their peers concerned with the opposite sex and sex itself for which they had certain curiosity and desire. They were brought up under forbidden sexual behavioral environments by their parents and were afraid of the sex. Second, the male students with mild intellectual disabilities in the special classes of secondary schools were continuously accessing the pornography. Whenever they watched the videos, they masturbated and felt the extreme sense of guilt. Finally, the male students with mild intellectual disabilities in the special classes of secondary schools had continuously taken the sex education but they hardly remembered or learned the contents. This confirmed that the sex education in schools need to emphasize the right perspectives on their own sex and sexual behavior and sex education should be done with understanding the characteristics, interests, and needs of adolescents with mild intellectual disabilities.
