이 연구는 필리핀의 사회운동조직 가와드 칼링가와 사회적기업 ‘마법에 빠진 농장’, 그리고 리더 안토니오 멜로토를 대상으로 사회운동과 사회적기업의 바람직한 모델을 탐색해 보고, 이를 통해서 한국농촌의 사회적 경제의 안정화와 확대를 위한 함의를 찾아보고자 하였다. 연구는 문헌조사, 현장방문을 통한 관찰, 관련 영상과 홈페이지 자료 등을 활용하였다. 사회운동, 사회적 경제, 그리고 사회적기업에 관한 한국의 대부분의 연구가 선진국 사례를 중심으로 논의된 것과 달리 이 연구는 필리핀의 사회운동과 사회적기업에 관한 첫 연구라는 의의가 있다. 기존 NGO 중심의 사회운동이 재정적인 문제로 운동의 지속성과 안정성에 한계를 드러낸 것과 달리 가와드 칼링가는 사회적기업 ‘마법에 빠진 농장’을 플랫폼으로, 공익을 위한 이윤창출의 사회적 경제 구현과 빈곤극복의 지역개발운동을 함께 전개하고 있다. 이는 새로운 사회운동의 가능성과 방향성을 제시하는 것으로서 그 경험과 내용을 공유할 필요가 있다. 가와드 칼링가의 빈곤극복 및 지역개발의 사회운동이 글로벌 모델로 활용될 수 있는 요인으로는 첫째, 사회운동을 총체적 차원에서 접근하였으며, 둘째, 강점관점 차원에서 상황과 대상을 긍정하고 신뢰하였으며, 셋째, 빈민이 교육을 통하여 의식을 전환하고 사회운동의 주체가 될 수있도록 하였으며, 넷째, 전통을 존중하고 이를 반영하여 자존적 사회운동을 추진하였으며, 마지막으로 리더의 리더십이 여러 내외적 조건들과 다차원적으로 조화를 이루는 것 등을 들 수 있다.

The purpose of this study is to find implications for the role, contribution of successful social movement, social enterprise and leader. The subjects of the study were the activities of a social movement organization in the Philippine, Gawad Kalinga, the social enterprise "Enchanted farm" and the leader Antonio T. Meloto. The research was conducted through qualitative methods using literature review, interviews through visited Philippine, and homepage. This research is the first study of social movement and social enterprise through the case of the Philippines, unlike most Korea social studies are based on developed countries. In contrast to the existing NGO-oriented social movement, which has been limited the sustainability and stability of the social movement by the financial problems, “Enchented farm” as a platform by Gawad Kalinga has adopted the social enterprise realized the social economy of profit- Regional development movements. This suggests the possibility and direction of a new social movement, and it is necessary to share the experiences and contents. The factors that can be used as a global model for the social movement in overcoming poverty and regional development of Gawad Kalinga are First, approached social movements from the collective level. Secondly, affirmed and trusted situations and objects in terms of strengths. Third, made possible the poor to change consciousness through education and become the subject of social movement. Fourth, promoted self-social movement. Finally, formed leadership with multidimensional harmony and various internal-external conditions.
