The purpose of this study is to identify the distribution and type classification of modern and contemporary religious materials in Korea, and to characterize the characteristics of living in Korea. In this paper, the period from the beginning of the nineteenth century (1800’s) to the Japanese colonial period was the period when religions were diversified with historical events such as Catholicism, persecution, opening of port.
The religious materials of this period is so diverse and vast that it can not be surveyed in its entirety, and its type is also complicated. In this respect, this study focused on the distribution of literature by religion, type classification according to the purpose of use, and characterization patterns of religion and period.
In the distribution survey of Korean modern and modern literature, 208 religious books and 128 magazines were collected based on previous research and excavation data. In the process, we excluded literature related to 'Confucianism', which controversies the concept and nature of religion.
The religious literature of modern and contemporary Korean society has an important meaning not only in religious life but also in literary life. From this point of view, it is expected that this study will contribute to the development of Korean language and life in the 19th century, and the process of knowledge formation and development.
