중앙아시아 5개국의 영화사는 이 지역 전체의 공통점을 강조하는 집단적인 역사로 규정되고 있으면서도, 동시에 5개국 각각의 특성에 따라 개별적으로 연구되고 있다. 그러나 본국에서조차도 각국의 영화사를 개별적으로 연구한 학술적 성과는 매우 미비한 편이다. 키르기즈스탄은 ‘해빙기’ 이후 완성도 있는 작품을 꾸준히 제작하고 있어서 주목의 대상이 된다. 특히 키르기스스탄에서는 중앙아시아 지역의 다른 나라에서 존재하는 정치적인 검열로 인한 압박이 없기 때문에 감독들이 소재의 제한을 받지 않으면서 영화 미학적으로 완성도 있는 영화를 꾸준히 만들고 있다는 점이 특징이다. 또한 키르기즈스탄 감독들은 자국의 생활환경에 대해서 미학적이면서도 예리한 관찰을 잃지 않는 수준 높은 다큐멘터리도 많이 제작하고 있어서 더욱 연구의 필요성이 제기된다. 현재 키르기즈스탄 감독 및 영화 제작자들이 처한 상황은 상대적으로 좋은 편이다. 즉 키르기즈스탄에서는 영화에 대한 정부의 지침이나 검열이 없다. 그렇기 때문에 다양한 영화제작 프로젝트를 수행할 수 있는 것이다. 본고는 중앙아시아 5개국 중에서 독특한 사회 정치적인 배경과 미학적인 특징을 가지고 있는 키르기스스탄의 영화사를 개괄적이나마 기술해보려는 시도이다. 특히 키르기스스탄 영화는 ‘키르기스스탄의 기적’이라는 용어가 생겨날 정도로 해외 평단에서 주목하는 일종의 영화 현상이기도 하다.

In addition, the director of Kyrgyzstan has produced a number of high-quality documentaries that do not lose sight of their aesthetic and sharp observations about their own living environment, necessitating further research. The situation of Kyrgyzstan directors and filmmakers is relatively good now. In Kyrgyzstan there is no government guidance or censorship of films. That's why you can do various film production projects. This article is an attempt to describe Kyrgyzstan's history of cinema, which has unique socio-political background and aesthetic characteristics among five Central Asian countries. In particular, Kyrgyzstan is a kind of movie phenomenon that attracts attention from overseas reviews as the term "miracle of Kyrgyzstan" comes into being.
