본 연구는 성별에 따른 대학생의 성격 5요인과 관계중독의 관계에서 내현적 자기애의 매개효과를 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 경남에 소재한 K대학교 학생 243명의 설문자료를 분석하였다. 그 결과, 성격 5요인과 관계중독은 성별에 따라 차이가 있었다. 또한, 성격 5요인에 따라 내현적 자기애와 관계중독과의 관계가 달랐으며, 그 양상이 성별에 따라 다르게 나타났다. 마지막으로, 매개분석 결과, 남자는 성격 5요인 중 신경증, 외향성, 성실성과 관계중독의 사이에서 내현적 자기애의 매개효과가 나타난 반면, 여자는 성격 5요인 중 신경증, 개방성과 관계중독의 사이에서 내현적 자기애의 매개효과가 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과는 내현적 자기애가 관계중독을 설명하는 중요한 변인일 수 있음을 보여주었고, 더 나아가 내현적 자기애는 성별에 따라 서로 다른 성격 5요인을 통해 예측할 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the mediating effect of covert narcissism on the relationship between personality traits and relationship addiction in both genders. For this purpose, 243 university students in Kyung-nam were surveyed. There were gender differences in the relationship both between personality trait and relationship addiction and between covert narcissism and relationship addiction. Results were also different by gender in the mediating effect of covert narcissism on the relationship between personality traits and relationship addiction. Among male students, covert narcissism mediated the relationships between neuroticism, extroversion and conscientiousness and relationship addiction; among female students, covert narcissism mediated the relationships between neuroticism and openness to experience and relationship addiction. These results showed that covert narcissism could be an important variable to explain relationship addiction, and identified that covert narcissism could be predicted through 5 different personality traits by gender differences.
