본 연구에서는 일과 여가가 균형 잡힌 삶을 살도록 돕는 여가상담의 필요성이 높아졌지만 실제적으로 상담자들의 관심과 실천이 부족하다는 전제하에 여가상담의 현실과 과제를 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 여가의 의미와 여가상담의 역사를 간단하게 알아본 후 적용 가능한 여가상담의 모형을 크게 세가지-교육적, 발달적, 치료적- 관점으로 제안하였으며, 모형별 상담전략을 검토하였다. 이에 더하여 여가상담의 내용을 무엇으로 구성해야 할 것인지, 이를 상담현장에서 어떻게 구현하고 적용할 수 있는지와 같은 실천적인 함의도 검토하였다. 기존의 여가학이 체육학의 하위영역으로 간주되었을 때 갖게 되는 한계를 벗어나서 내담자에게 삶에서 여가가 중요함을 알려주고, 실천적인 노력을 통해 건강하고 균형 잡힌 삶을 영위하도록 도와주기 위해서는 상담의 제반 지식과 기술이 활용되어야 함을 제안하였다. 상담전문성이 발휘되어야 할 중요한 분야로 여가상담이 대두되어야 하며 여가 전문가들의 역할 정체성은 상담자들이 선도적으로 만들어가야 한다는 사실도 제안하였다. 마지막으로 여가상담을 발전시키기 위한 세 가지 과제를 제시하였으며, 학회차원의 지원과 학제 간 협력과 함께 상담자 삶에서도 여가와 일의 조화를 만들어야 함을 제안하였다.
This study examined reality and future challenges of leisure counseling. Counselors should help clients manage balanced life with leisure but actually counselors don’t have leisure counseling knowledge and methods because of low interests in leisure and small amount of research data. This study investigated the meaning of leisure and history of leisure counseling, and suggested three possible leisure counseling models-educative, developmental, therapeutic and examined counseling strategies of each models. Furthermore, this study examined practical connotations such as what the components of leisure counseling should be and how to adapt leisure counseling in the actual field. This study suggested that all sorts of knowledge and skills of counseling should be utilized to inform the clients that leisure is important in life and to help them to have a healthy and balanced life through practical efforts by surpassing the limitation when the existing leisure science considered a subarea of physical education. The study also suggested that leisure counseling should be emerged as an important area where counseling expertise should be exhibited and counselors need to develop the role identity of leisure experts initiatively. Finally, three tasks were presented to improve the leisure counseling and the study suggested support from academic association and interdisciplinary cooperation are needed, and leisure and work should be harmonized in counselor’s own life well.
