한국문학사에서 1920년대 초반에 전개된 여러 동인지들 가운데, 『장미촌』은 ‘최초의 시(詩) 전문 동인지’라는 획시기적 규정을 받고 있다. 하지만 그것은 그 자체로 독자적인 위상을 부여받기보다는 『백조(白潮)』의 전신(前身)이라는 과도기적 위상과 낭만주의라는 문예사조사적 규정을 크게 벗어나지 않는다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 문학사적 평가를 비판적으로 검토하면서, 『장미촌(薔薇村)』을 같은 시기의 『대중시보(大衆時報)』와 겹쳐 있는 방식을 통해, 그 사상적 맥락과 정치적 함의를 고찰하였다. 『장미촌』을 주재했던 황석우(黃錫禹)와 동인으로 참여했던 정태신(鄭泰信)은, 동시에 일본에서 아나키즘 경향의 사상 잡지 『대중시보』의 동인으로 참여하고 있었다. 동시기에 발행된 『장미촌』과 『대중시보』는 아나키즘이라는 사상적 맥락에서 공통 지반을 가지고 있었으며, 문학과 정치의 양익(兩翼)과 같은 모양새와 역할을 하고 있었다. 구체적으로 보자면, 두 매체는 지배 도구로서의 국가와 자본에 대한 비판, 이상향(理想鄕)에 대한 지향과 형상화, 생명(生命) 담론에 기초한 주체성 생성 및 급진적 사상 등을 공유하면서 상보적인 역할을 수행했다고 할 수 있다. 여기에는 한국문학사를 관통해온 ‘문학과 정치’라는 오래된 문제를 새롭게 사유할 수 있는 계기가 잠재해 있다.
A many literary coterie magazines of the early 1920s from the Korean literary history, 『Jangmichon』 has been defined as the 'first literary coterie magazine specialized in poems', which made a new epoch. However, rather than having its own status, it is being given a transitional status as the predecessor of the 『Baek Jo』 and valued as the romanticism from the history of the literary trends. With the critical approach to such evaluation in the literary history, this paper examined an ideological context and political implication of 『Jangmichon』 through intertextual reading with 『Daejungsibo』 in the same period. Both Hwang Seok-Woo who presided over 『Jangmichon』 and Jeong Tae-Shin who participated in it as a member took part in 『Daejungsibo』, an anarchist ideological magazine, as members in Japan. 『Jangmichon』 and 『Daejungsibo』 published in the same period had a common ground from an ideological context of anarchism, assuming the form of and playing a role of both wings of literature and politics. In detail, it may be said that both media shared criticism of the nations as a tool for domination, orientation towards and figuration of Utopia and radical ideology grounded in discourse on life, playing a complementary role. Here, there is a latent opportunity to think about a long-standing issue of 'literature and politics' which has penetrated the Korean literary history in a new manner.
