This study begins with the awareness of the need to establish a new perspective on education through novels. Considering the novel as a work of art, it is necessary to use it in education in a more flexible way, such as a text, so that it can be an instrument for developing the diverse capabilities needed in today’s world. One example of such use presented in this study is critical thinking education through novels. Novels can arouse interest in the lives of individuals so as to make one realize how indifferent he or she was toward the lives of others and reflect on how their lives were considered residual. Inaddition, novels enable readers to learn about the social phenomenon of lack of empathy with others in daily life and thus identify associated problems and imagine solutions. Novels provide opportunities to sympathize with others, create disparities in the world of dealing with familiar things in familiar ways, and elicit new “interests.” This “interest” does not end with the awakening of particular emotions, but rather leaves a mark that causes major or minor impacts on people’s lives as they will take with them the solutions they learned in the novel and see the world differently.
