본고는 김소월 시의 민요 수용의 경향을 운율의 일반 원리의 측면이 아니라 개별 작품의 창작방법의 측면에서 살폈다. 이를 위해 김소월이 민요적 서정시를 창작하는 과정에서 민요를 활용하는 방법을 실증적으로 살폈다. 김소월은 전통문화 체험과 당대 현실의 체험을 민요적 서정시로 표출하였는데, 김소월은 시 창작에서 하나의 민요를 변용하는 방식에서 여러 민요를 결합하는 방식으로 나아갔으며, 민요의 언어 반복, 언어유희, 문답 구조 등을 활용하였음을 밝혔다. 또한 민요의 모티브와 주제를 집중적으로 현대시로 창작하였으며, 설화를 바탕으로 한 민요나 전통 설화까지 민요적 서정시로 변용하는 창작방법을 구현했다. 뿐만 아니라 김소월은 당대의 사회적 사건을 민요적 서정시로 만드는 창작 방법을 추진하였던 것도 규명하였다. 김소월이 민요를 활용하는 창작방법을 실증적으로 규명한 작업은 김소월 시의 여러 경향을 새로운 각도에서 조명하는 계기가 될 것이다.

This paper focuses on the adoption of folk songs in Kim So -Wol’s poems, in terms of poetic devices of individual poems, in stead of general principles of poetic meter. Research has been undertaken to explore how Kim So-Wol adopted folklore in his poems. Expressing in folk lyrics his experiences of traditional culture and the reality in which he found himself. Kim So-Wol moved from revising individual folklore tales to combining many. Uses of reiteration, puns, dialogues in the manner of folklore are also explained. Kim So-Wol placed motifs and themes of folklore into modern poems, and presented a creative method of revising folklore and even floktales into folk lyrics. Kim So-Wol’s attempts at incorporating contemporary social events into his folk lyrics are also examined. Close scrutiny of Kim So Wol’s creative manner of employing folklore will throw a different light on various characteristics of his poems.
