이 논문은 최인훈의 비평을 체계적으로 이해하기 위한 시도의 일부이다. 이 논문에서 다루고자 한 것은 패러디라는 문학적 양식에 대해 최인훈이 어떻게 이해하고 있었는가 하는 점이다. 잘 알려져 있는 것처럼 최인훈은 다양한 패러디 작품들을 썼다. 등단 완료작인 「라울전」부터 「놀부뎐」, 「춘향뎐」, 「옹고집뎐」, 「크리스마스 캐럴」, 「옛날 옛적에 훠어이 훠이」 등 패러디는 최인훈에게 시기와 장르를 구분함이 없이 지속적으로 문제가 되었던 중요한 문학적 방법이었음을 알 수 있다. 이런 이유로 최인훈의 패러디 작품들에 대한 논의도 상당히 많이 이루어졌다. 하지만 그에 비해 최인훈이 패러디에 대해 어떻게 생각하고 있었는지 그가 쓴 일련의 비평들을 통해 확인하려는 시도는 거의 이루어지지 않았다. 이 논문은 최인훈의 비평에 나타난 그의 패러디 인식을 살펴봄으로써 기존의 논의에서 누락된 부분을 보충해 보고자 하였다. 최인훈은 동시대의 풍속을 질서 있게 이해하기 위한 방법적 결과물로서의 양식을 만들어 내는 것을 문학자의 과제로 이해하였다. 이러한 과제는 특히 기존의 문학 양식이 동시대의 풍속을 다루기에 적절하지 않게 되었을 때 중요해진다. 최인훈이 생각하기에 그가 문단 활동을 하던 1960년대가 바로 이러한 시기에 해당하였다. 패러디는 기존 양식으로는 동시대의 풍속을 그리는데 한계가 있고, 동시대 풍속에 어울리는 새로운 문학 양식을 만들어 내는 데는 이르지 못한 상황에서 나온 과도기적이고 임시적인 문학적 양식이라고 할 수 있다. 이 논문은 동료 작가들의 작품에 대해 최인훈이 쓴 실제 비평을 참고하면서, 최인훈의 이런 생각들을 정리해 보려 하였다.
This paper is one part of an attempt to systematically understand Choi In-hoon’s criticism. What I want to cover in this paper is how Choi understands the literary form of parody. As is well known, Choi wrote various parody works, such as “Raul,” “Nolbu,” “Chunhyang,” “Onggojip,” “Christmas Carol,” and “Wha...i, Whai, a Long Long Time Ago.” Choi’s parody works have been extensively discussed. However, few attempts have been made to identify Choi’ thoughts about parody through a series of criticisms that he wrote. This paper attempts to supplement the missing parts of the existing discussion by examining the recognition of parody in Choi’s criticism. Choi understood the task of authors to produce a form as a methodical result to understand contemporary manners and customs. This task becomes especially important when the existing literary style is inadequate to deal with contemporary manners and customs. Choi thinks that the 1960s was one such time. Parody is a transitional and temporal literary form. Authors use parody because existing literary forms have limitations when it comes to drawing contemporary manners and customs, and a new style of literature has not yet been created. This paper refers to the actual criticism written by Choi about the works of fellow writers, and tries to understand his thoughts about parody.
