본 연구는 문학교육에서 작가론이 지식과 정보로 머물면서 제 기능을 하지 못하고 있는 것에 문제를 제기하면서 작품 이해의 한 관점으로서의 작가론의 활용 방안을 모색하고자 하였다. 현재 문학교육과정에서는 작가와 작품의 관계를 불가분의 관계로 인식하여 관련성 속에서 작품을 이해하도록 제시하고 있으나 실제 교육이 이루어지는 교과서에서는 이러한 방향이 제대로 구현되지 못하고 있다. 문학교과서의 작가론은 크게 작가 정보와 학습활동 등에서 활용되고 있는데, ‘작가소개’는 거의 대부분의 교과서가 천편일률적으로 작가의 기본적인 인적 사항과 작품 경향, 대표작들을 나열하고 있다. 그러나 이러한 경우 본시 학습에서 다루는 작품과의 관련성이나 작품을 이해하는 데 도움이 되는 정보라기보다는 피상적이고 형식적으로 제시되고 있어 교육적으로 제대로 활용되지 못하는 실정이다. 또한 학습활동 역시 주로 시대적 배경과 관련된 작가의 상황을 제시하여 작품을 한정적으로 이해하게 하고 있다. 따라서 작가를 시대성, 대표성의 관점에서 생각하기보다는 한 인간으로서, 작품을 창작해 내고 작품 속의 인물의 삶과 문제를 풀어나가는 생산자적 존재로 인식을 전환해야 한다. 또한 ‘작가소개’와 ‘학습활동’ 역시 본시 학습 대상인 작품과 관련하여 어떤 고민과 문제적 상황, 심리가 작품의 창작 및 작품 속 인물의 삶의 구현과 관련이 되었는지에 대한 탐구를 통해서 작가론을 인간의 문제로 접근해야 할 것이다.

The purpose of this study is to examine ways to apply the theory on authors in literature education. This is by bringing up the instructional problem in the literature education, where the theory on authors is treated only as knowledge and information on learning content, especially on authors or their works. In current literature education, teachers are required to present the relation between authors and their works perceived as inseparable in the classroom but this instructional condition is not embodied in the textbook, which is operated as a data source, for actual teaching and learning. The theory on author in the textbook is used through information providing and learning activity which is equivalent to learning content, but information on authors is enumerated according to their personal items, the tendency of their works, representative works, etc.. oreover, in teaching theory on authors, teachers must approach it as a problem of human being and learning participants may explore the source of authors’ trouble, problem of the time, psychological mechanism by authors.
