The purpose of this study was studied about weakening of a vowel in Japanese, Korean and English. As a result, vowel reduction appears variously between Korean, English and Japanese. When classified according to accent type, Schwa occurs in English and vowel devoicing occurs in Japanese. Also, in Korean, vowel deletion, vowel coalescence, and glide is occur. In addition, it was confirmed that factors of vowel reduction were differences in rhythm units of each language, differences in duration of vowels, differences in quality of vowels, and the like.
Due to the difference in intensity and length of English, the sound quality of vowel changes, and in weak syllables schwa is created. Differences in the intensity of English accent lead to changes in the articulation points of vowels, the difference in their articulation points affecting the quality of vowel sounds, which creates schwa.
On the other hand, in Japanese, vowels of low accent syllables are made devoicing by the influence of consonants, but the length and sound quality of the moras are not much different. Unlike this, there is no prosodic element in Korean, so only vowel reduction to avoid vowel collision is realized.
