The purpose of this study is to use discourse analysis to evaluate the structure and language strategies used in Korean notices posted in public restrooms. Notices in public facilities are one type of communicative discourse that reflects the culture and values of a particular group in a society. The restroom, in particular, is a facility that is closely related to human physiology; therefore, its discourse actively produces cross-linguistic elements. Since very few studies on restroom notices from a linguistic perspective exist, the present study uses discourse analysis to examine the characteristics and sociocultural values of the discourse evinced by Korean notices in public restrooms.
